Do you really need a solicitor..

Do you really need a solicitor when signing up for a lease for business premises

 

What advantage would this give me

 

Can't I just do it myself (and save money)

You could DIY, but you run the risk of not understanding the drawbacks in a lease and any potential pitfalls, then you'll be back here posting a thread on how to get out of a 5 year lease that has no break clause and an annual rent review (for example).

 

This will cost you more than what it would cost to avoid the solicitor checking it over. There is one in Doncaster that checks them over for about £150 ish. Can't think of the name right now though.

 

Not a good start to business by cutting these sort of corners though.

Thanks Sandra..I knew I could rely on you..I didn't know the cost but £150ish sounds reasonable especially for peace of mind

 

It's only a year lease but I do want the option of rent review and ability to be able to extend it

I will try and dig out the name and PM you. Well one year isn't so bad, but also not very long depending what type of premises you are having. e.g. if retail, one year isn't long enough.

Thanks again...it's offices (2) but big enough for training/meeting rooms and it has parking :) that was my biggest challenge

 

I'll await your PM...does he/she have a Sheffield branch?

I don't think so. But you can always scan/email or post the lease to them.
