Testing monitor by attaching to laptop

is it possible to attach a monitor to a laptop in order to verify the monitor is 'dead'. More to the point is it easy!!!

Yeh, plug in the monitor then press what ever the FN key is to switch the screen to your laptop lcd to monitor.

If it has Intel graphics you'll have to do a little more than FN and F4 / F5:

 

Right-click anywhere on the desktop

 

Click “GRAPHICS PROPERTIES”

 

CLICK “OUTPUT TO”

 

Click “DUAL DISPLAY CLONE”

 

Click “NOTEBOOK + MONITOR”

Of course if you can see all these options, means your screen works LOL

 

The OP wants to use the laptop to test an external monitor...at this point they're still using the laptop's own display...

is it the monitor that may have to have Intel graphics or the laptop - the laptop is an old Dell Inspiron laptop and the monitor is off a Dell Inspiron 520

Theoretically a monitor is a monitor is a monitor

Any monitor should fit any pc as long as it has the relevant connection
