Just starting out as a DIY bride ready for next year, love the ideas I have seen here already.

Really glad to see ideas with flowers as the prices I have seen are shocking!

Anyone got any ideas for jazzing up a plain 3 tier cake? (I'm aiming to buy a tesco one for £30 and decorate myself!)

Also these two websites are amazing for free templates and ideas:

To adorn our 3 tier M&S special, we are wrapping a piece of ribbon around the base of each tear and then having a flower cake topper made by our florist!

The M&S cakes are really good value. We bought some for H's naming party. They had a 3 for 2 offer on at the time, so we decorated one and had the other two as cutting cakes

We used a Swarovski ornament as the topper, iced her name on, and used rice paper daisies to finish it off. Icing toppers don't keep forever, so the rocking horse we picked will be a nice keepsake for her :)

I just wanted to share this with you, as I haven't seen them before, and I think they look amazing.... and so simple to DIY!

Me and the OH were discussing sweet tables for the reception, so I was browsing for ideas, and I came across these lollipop trees!

Don't they look great?

Looked online, and they are charging between £15 (for a small one of 12" or so) and £35 for a larger one (24" or so)

So I looked into how to make them myself, and all you need is:

A florists foam ball (9cm diameter for a small tree, or anything up to 20cm for a big tree

A wooden stick (dowel rod for small tree, cut off a broom handle for a large tree

A pot

Something to hold the stick in the pot (The easiest way is plaster of paris and a terracotta pot, but other things can be used)

Decorations (Maybe paint for the pot, ribbon or paint to decorate the stick)

Something to fill the spaces between lollies (scrunched up tissue paper, tinsel, ribbon, anything really)

Lollies

Penny sweets

And thats it...

All you have to do is:

Cut a hole the size of the stick in the florists ball, and if it ends up not being tight, secure in place with a bit of WOOD GLUE - Don't use craft glue, as the ball will dissolve!

Half fill your pot with plaster of Paris, and hold the stick into place. It shouldn't take long for the plaster to set enough that you don't need to hold it

Once this has dried, get to work decorating the pot and the stick with your ribbons and bows etc.

Once this is done, you can start on the lollies.

Very simply, just stick them into the ball, by their sticks, just as a florist would when making a bouquet with a foam ball. Use as many or as few lollies as you wish. Some like to leave no gaps between them, and some like to leave a lot.

Once you have filled the ball with lollies, you can fill in the gaps between them. Some people totally cover their ball with tissue paper before they start putting the lollies in, or you can just add scrunched up bits now. You could also wind tinsel around the lollies, anything, it depends on the effect you want.

Then cover your layer of plaster in the pot with penny sweets, or other small confectionary items to make it pretty

It sounds so super easy, I'm going to make one myself! And they dont only use lollies either... Here are a few other ideas

You just have to use cocktail sticks or something similar to 'pin' the sweets into place, rather than the lolly sticks.... Simples!

Just made myself some wedding scrolls in Word, 4 on an A4 sheet, so they end up A6 size, and just need printing, trimming down, rolling up and ribbon tied around them, make nice little (CHEAP) favours!

Like these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PERSONALISED-WEDDING-FAVOUR-MINI-SCROLLS-50-READY-MADE-/370482032282?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Celebrations_Occasions_ET&hash=item5642732e9a#ht_6267wt_936

I really should take up selling on eBay lol

If anyone wants to drop me a message, with your email address I'll send you the word document for you to edit and add your own names and dates :hihi:

For my wedding cake we just got some really wide wire edged ribbon and made the cake look like a huge present with a big bow on top (it was a huge octagonal fruit cake, so I guess you can scale the ribbon to the cake). It took about 20 minutes to go from a really plain cake to a big gold present :)
