damo   10 #13 Posted June 15, 2011 Netto have been purchased by Walmart, the same company that purchased ASDA.  Oops, got that the wrong way round! anyway, my point stands. The scrubbers can go down the hill to Lidl if they want bargain basement food.
 Share this content via...

Annetteb1978 Â Â 10 #16 Posted June 15, 2011 I went past it on my way to work thismorning and there was a big crowd outside and a photographer.. I wonder if a celeb was opening it or maybe they were giving away freebies for the opening.
 Share this content via...

Cynic   10 #18 Posted June 15, 2011 is it just food or is there george stuff in there?  I would imagine just food. They bought Netto to compete with the "metro" style stores that Tesco and the others have.
 Share this content via...

fake   10 #22 Posted June 15, 2011 I went in around 2pm today and it was packed out with shoppers!  Had a good look round but didn't buy anything as the queues were massive despite the many till points and self service tills open. There was plenty of staff on hand unlike Netto with the usual 3 or 4 on hand.  I can see the competition, Tesco express, loosing out especially as Asda have a much greater variety of products. But then again Tesco made a bad decision in reducing the original floor size that was the Summerfields store and turning it into a mini express.  The prices on a lot of home branded products seem to be about the same as Netto was but the fresh fruit and veg section looked much better.  One thing these smaller stores should review is selling small electrical items and other bits, like buckets and mops and concentrate on food and sundries instead.  Will try again on Friday.
