When vulnerabilities are found, they are usually fixed by Microsoft releasing patches for any vulnerable files through Windows Updates.

nevermind thankyou everyone for trying to help i hsve now sold the laptop and i think they got a bargin :( but it was my daughter's choice i now have to look forward to minne being infected seeing as she has started to use mine.

install AVG its free and easy to use... Ive used it for over 6 years with no problems and when there were problems it was at my own doing...

use firefox or chrome, with a pop-up blocker and tell your kid to stay away from dodgy sites unless they want to buy you a new computer!

Do you know what anti-virus software is for? If 'yes' are you aware that you can download AVG for free?

MS Patch Tuesday: Gaping holes haunt Internet Explorer browser

Slightly sensationalistic. When you consider...

The only bulletin with a known exploit in the wild is MS11-046, a local privilege escalation flaw in the “afd.sys” driver.

Something that I've been trying to get across on these forums for a long time...

Plus there are the critical fixes from Adobe Reader and Oracle for Java...

...Browser and plug-in vulnerabilities together have been the point of entry for many recent security incidents and are the main infection vector for mass malware such as Zeus and SpyEye

The combo MS11-050/052, together with APSB11-016 from Adobe and Java CPU June 2011 is the first highest priority set of vulnerabilities to address this week. That way IT admins will keep ahead of the “ExploitKit” writers and and make their workstation infrastructures more robust.

Depends how you look at it, some of the vulnerabilities affect all versions of IE, which shouldn't really happen (especially considering the hoohar M$ made of the re-written IE9 - makes me wonder just which bit of IE they actually re-wrote:hihi:).

FTR. All the software on the boxes here are up to date (as is possible - some of the SW I use is now obsolete/no longer supported - not really a problem for us as we've got a decent security policy:D).

Turn off the laptop , then switch on and keep tapping F8 when the menu appears select repair computer option

When asked for username use your default one and enter the password if required

Then select the detected windows , then when the window opens select startup repair.

If that fails then follow these steps again but select system restore and restore to a date before the problem started.

If all the above fail then you would need to restore to factory defaults.
