Bumble Bees Help and Advice wanted please.

Recommended Posts

I have recently noticed that we have a family of bumble bees living in the wall of our house. Does anyone know how we remove them or of anyone we could talk to for advice. :help:

Personaly I will say this - bees are NOT like wasps - they will not attack unless provoked - and worker dies with the sting (wasps are evil and sting again and again...) - if you are truly thinking it's bad then consider the swarm moved if possible. I can't ofer advice of moving them but they should be semi-harmless.

The morality question is - with the past bee numbers declining - will you help them die off completly?

I'm sorry to be blunt but - I hope you make the right decision.

Thanks for the advice i would not like to hurt them i just was concerned about damage to the wall cavity. (I had all sorts of visions). They do not bother me going about their daily living. I will take your advice cookingfat50 and block the hole in winter and provide alternative accommodation.

I wouldn't worry about them. Just leave them bee and enjoy watching them come and go. They're harmless and will only sting if trapped.

Bumble Bees are a protected species and therefore it's illegal to move or destroy or damage a nest.

Best thing is just to leave them. They won't hurt anybody.

They won't half damage your house though if they nest in the cavity walls! :gag:

What if you're allergic? Then they'll kill you!

I agree. If the nest in the cavity gets too big it can force the walls apart, causing them to bulge. This is known as apis swell and can only be removed with a specialist piece of equipment used by pest control firms and called an apis taker.
