I cannot lose weight for love nor money.. why?

Recommended Posts

I wouldn't worry about it too much until you have seen the doctor - and make sure you mention that your weight has changed along with your time of month. It sounds like you have water retention rather than excess fat.

Did you increase muscle tone from going to the gym? I know others have said muscle weighs more than fat, and sometimes ignoring the actual weight and going on muscle tone and tape measure will be a better guide. If you haven't increased muscle tone then it might be better to see a personal trainer - just a couple of times, who will guide you in the right direction.

It does to me sound like you have an underlying health problem which is affecting your weight. Are you on any form of hormone contraception?

As for the husband- you have said it yourself, but the stress and way he is treating you regarding the issue can't be helping in any way shape or form.

"Muscle weighs more than fat", the most overused phrase in fitness today. A phrase commonly used when the poor fitness goer, has paid out lots of money and has seen bugger all results - as the result of a poor fitness programme.

The way to lose fat is to work out a weight loss programme, stick to it rigidly and use as many extra calories as you can with hard work at a gym, or out walking/running/climbing/playing a sport in the open air at least 3 times a week.

It's not easy, but it is effective and if I can lose weight even on 3 sets of pills which cause weight gain, then it can be done. Not meaning to hold myself up as a paragon of anything, but it IS possible if you stick with it.

I'm not sure that I'd start anything until the potential hormonal issues that are happening to you at the moment are sorted out though. Bleeding in the middle of your cycle is often associated with ovulation, but if nothing else it could cause anaemia if you bleed too often, so it's a good idea to get it checked out.

Your hardly even eating anything and your body will be hanging onto what little food you give it. You must feel hungry A LOT! A stone sounds like a lot if its crept on over just a few weeks, dont think I could do that eating a Mc D's everyday. Those sugars in your tea will def effect your mood, after the sugar rush dies off you'll feel lethargic and crave more of it. Eat breakfast cuz your body needs it after the long sleep with no food, add some bread into your dinner and your metabolism will improve. Good luck

oh and one more thing, ive enrolled into a zumba class with my gym, i did that this morning for the first time.... tbh, i dont really like it! street dance is more my thing.

I personally hate zumba, I'm not into dancing around that much and I have to concentrate that hard on getting the moves right I don't feel like I have had a workout, as I;m too busy trying to catch up.

The best things for burning calories I have found is spinning and running. I damaged my ankle playing netball and although I still play netball weekly with no problems the repetative movement of running eventually gets my ankle at about the 8Km mark. The other things I have found have had a big effect on body shape is body pump/ weights and circuit training with heavy weights/cardio mix.

I have never been small or slim (I'm 5'10", 11.6 stone and a large build) I can get down to about 10 and a half stone but just feel washed out so I have to stay plump which is the top end of a healthy BMI to feel well and maintain my excerise. Just a thought that you can tone up and change your shape without losing a massive amount of wieght so don't get too caught up in the weight and get to see the doctor, being healthy and fit is more important than what you look like :)

Hi Fallenangel, I was wondering if you forgot to list the food you eat on an average day because it looks like you only have one meal a day! That's not good. I never used to eat breakfast and always felt shocking. Now I always have breakfast and I feel so much better. It is essential to eat in the morning to get yourself started. If you skip meals your body can go into starvation mode and hoard every ounce of energy you put into your body because it is afraid you are in a famine.

Perhaps having 3 small meals a day would be better?

Just a thought.;-) I hope you feel better about your weight soon

Sorry to hear of the problems. We deal with this every day with many of our clients (we own a private gym and specialise in weight loss) and fully understand how depressing it can be to be unable to lose weight.

First thing, if all you are eating is what you mentioned in your first post, then you're not eating enough for the weight gain to be fat (but still drop the sugar in your tea), so rest assured it's not that.

Second thing; if the weight gain is rapid (weeks or months instead of years) then it's again unlikely to be all fat. It's a common misconception that you can just 'look' at food and gain fat (don't confuse fat gain with water weight). Fat doesn't go away easily and neither does it go on quickly; it tends to creep on rather than pile on. Water, however can go up and down by half a stone in a matter of days depending on your diet (this is why zero carb diets appear to work quickly - you just shed excess water in the first few days when you go into ketosis)

You don't mention how old you are but irregular or more frequent periods are not a good sign and indicate that you're suffering a hormonal imbalance and possibly early onset menopause and this definitely needs checking out with a sympathetic GP (some aren't). Fluctuations in progesterone/estrogen levels will make your body bloat with fluid, especially around the abdomen and weight increases of a stone or more in a few weeks are not unheard of.

Send us a pm if you want to have a chat about it.

Good luck.
