Dragonfall   10 #61 Posted June 2, 2011 (edited) Seeing as things are getting out of hand in such areas, the best thing the decent residents can do is to, be the 'CCTV': try not to get into the mind-set that "the police will do nowt, so what's the point …". It would be foolish to tackle these people head-on but, report things as you witness them, go with your gut-feeling if you think someone is acting wrongly, make notes of car reg. numbers, descriptions of people, take photos/video (if it is safe to do so), keep a diary of incidents - get involved in any neighbourhood meetings & find out what's happening locally.  Some might say, that it's like doing the police's job for them (& maybe they're right) but those are the times we're living in. The police have limited resources/funding, & focus on areas where things are reported more, or where there's more evidence to act upon. If (as one poster has commented) the people actually causing the trouble are in the minority - let the majority of decent folks take back control of their area. It's understandable that decent people can become apathetic or fearful of becoming involved, but what's the alternative?  http://neighbourhood.southyorkshire.police.uk/sheffield/gleadless-woodseats/gleadless Edited June 3, 2011 by Dragonfall
 Share this content via...
clownaround   10 #62 Posted June 2, 2011 My sister and her family have just accepted a 3 bed maisonette next door to the Wyvern. They live in a 2 bed on Blackstock Rd at the mo. I am now quite worried about her living up there as I thought it was a "better end" than where she is now. We grew up on Gaunt Rd and have seen it go down hill for many years. Believe it or not there used to be a waiting list to get on the Valley as it was the place to live. What a shame they have turned it into a dumping ground. Joanl   12 #63 Posted June 2, 2011 It's very sad reading this. I used to live opposite the Wyvern thirty odd years ago and loved it. Shame if its gone downhill this much.
 Share this content via...
0742Sheff   10 #64 Posted June 2, 2011 I was riding through there with a mate some 20+ years ago. We were going past 2 men and they decided it would be a good idea to beat the crap out of my friend. We weren't even teenagers at the time. This was on Blackstock Rd.  It sounds like the place isn't getting any better as time goes on
 Share this content via...
Total Chaos   10 #65 Posted June 2, 2011 It's a million times better than Gleadless pal, worth paying the extra to get out of this haven of no morals.  Is it leppings lane?
 Share this content via...

selphie   10 #67 Posted June 3, 2011 I would have said that that's Gleadless Valley TBH but i'm sure someone will disagree with me. I live up at Herdings and consider everything 'down-the-hill' as being in The Valley, because it is (if you know what I mean) lol x
 Share this content via...
selphie   10 #68 Posted June 3, 2011 Ok i'm going to stick my neck on the block now and I'm ready for the backlash. I live at the top end of Gleadless, Some call it Herdings, some call it Hemsworth others call it Gleadless. The majority of the estate where I live is owner occupied. There are very few council houses around here. I only know of 3 which I can see from my front door. OK getting off the point. My little community is very nice. We all get on with each other and we all look out for each other. No-one parks in anyone elses parking space etc etc. It is because we are all considerate of others. One of the council houses was taken over by a family a few years ago, and I won't lie, they do get on my nerves a bit. You know the sort, loud music and windows open. Young lads shouting obcenities at my 14 year old daughter whenever she goes to the shop. Dumps furniture out on the front until the council shift it. That sort of thing. But they're not so bad. The council could have put a lot worse in there so I thank my lucky stars. Just recently I have noticed and increase of 'undesireables' on the estate. I live on a cul-de-sac but there is another road which leads off mine. After living somewhere like this for a while you get to notice things that are out of place. I fear that we are getting invaded by the riff raff up here. We shall see what happens over the coming months. So for now, I like it up here in the 'ghetto' but who knows what the future holds!! I spent the first 18 years of my life on the Manor. The closest i ever came to witnessing anti social behavior was me and my mates playing delavio around the flats. ClaireTrudy   10 #71 Posted June 3, 2011 I used to live near Raeburn Road. And have lived there for 30 years before i left. I have noticed the area is getting worse. But isn't every area getting the same!. Not enough police to patrol the area, no one sees or hears nothing till it happens to them. What do you exspect!.
