What sort of hamster are you wanting? - that will also affect the type of cage you buy.

I currently have a robovski (did have 2) hamster, and wouldnt get this breed again- hes too hard to handle/not really a pet you can play with- hes happier to run round his huge rotastak cage

I've had russians too before- much easier to tame/a bit slower.

I had two hamsters, eventually we had to separate them as they kept fighting. They also used to bite me everytime i handled them. They weren't friendly at all.

I'd recommend a pet rat! Mine was lovely. Very friendly, loved being out of his cage and spending time with us. I used to take him everywhere with me! They are also better if you have children that will be handling them as they are easier to hold than hamsters. They aren't as delicate or as easy to drop!

Get a fluffy one, they live on their own. Don't get the Russian type, they are born evil!

Rats are amazing pets but they prefer company and need stimulation as they are so clever. Hamsters are easier.
