I spend a third of the year in the Philippines. Eat rice only, and you will live. If you only have to eat one thing, rice is the best.

 

it's only because poor people here live in a consumer society that they want to eat crap food.

 

to stay alive, it's

 

1. rice

 

2. potatoes

 

3. pasta

 

Thats the carbs well taken care of, any protein or fats in there?

the two main staple crops in the Philippines are rice and corn. Rice is massively out front.

 

rice is better but these two crops will keep you and your family from starving to death, even if you eat hardly anything else. Most people keep chickens. More ambitious people keep pigs, even in towns.

 

of course there's always the mangoes, bananas and coconuts that they don't get from Waitrose or Marks and Spencer. They literally do grow on trees.
