Should dead-end threads be in General Discussions?

There's been a LOT of pointless dead-end threads flooding our beloved General Discussions area lately. By dead-end threads I mean threads where the OP makes a claim and throughout the entire thread wastes everybody's time by posting link after link to sources that contain NO evidence of the OP's claim. The rest of the posters continue top ask for the OP to back up his/her claims but he/she fails or refuses to, instead bringing up PREVIOUS threads into discussion.

 

These threads always follow the same pattern, always stray back onto the same old subject/agenda after a few pages and ALWAYS go nowhere in terms of discussion or debate.

 

Then they start a new one and the circle is complete.

 

I'm all for freedom of speech but these threads are becoming propaganda spam. There are mentally vulnerable people who may even believe the ridiculous claims that are made, who knows the consequences of this?

 

 

Yes I'm talking about the (MANY) conspiracy theory threads, obviously. I know I'm not alone in this. We CAN'T and SHOULDN'T ban conspiracy theory discussion, but as previously pointed out, they aren't discussions. They are mostly rants, sometimes turning abusive. The closest I can find to describe them is "silly threads" in the I'm Bored section.

 

If one of the conspiracy fans actually put a case forward for their claims, that we could discuss, then fine but as for the show we've had so far.....

 

Should the SF team move all dead-end threads to another area?

I think you misunderstand me! ... when you said 'facepalms' I presumed you were referring to the previous thread and putting your head in your hands, I was agreeing with you!

Who is to say what is a conspiracy and what isn't?

 

Many claims which at first appear outragious and have people screaming 'conspiracy theorist' later turn out to be true.

 

The death of Dr David Kelly for instance, is that a suicide or a murder? We'll have to wait and see, but no inquest will silence the conspiracy theorists and on this occasion I'd agree with them.

I HAVEN'T been trying to get the threads banned.

 

EDIT: I always look at evidence, then I ask about it and you get angry.

If, by ignorant, you mean asking for facts, then yes I'm comfortable.
