Recommendations for laptop repair?

Has anybody used a computer shop for a laptop repair? I am in sheffield 6 and my laptop has suddenly died. I have used PC Repair before on Halifax Road but I wondered if anyone had used anywhere else as I wasn't that impressed with them.

 

I would have used the search facility but the site is currently undergoing an upgrade so it doesn't work.

Can you be more descriptive? Will the laptop power on? Does it work off battery or charger, or neither?

Hi. If you can provide some more details of how the laptop died, i may can help you. Try to remove the battery and plug the power cable only and try to power the laptop. If this doesn't work, PM me to discover the reason.

Ok. Its an Acer Aspire 5520. First of all, I was logged onto the internet when the screen suddenly went crazy with lots of zigzag lines going from top to bottom. Then the screen went blank and the hard disk light stopped flashing. I had to power off and then try and restart. It then kept turning itself on and off. Finally I got it to start up and then had to use it through windows safe mode. Managed to get to chkdsk where it found loads of files and starting deleting them. It then loaded up ok so I managed to run AVG. It worked ok for the next 10 minutes and then the screen went crazy again. This has happened about 5 times so far. At the moment it seems to be behaving itself as it has now been on for a couple of hours without any problems. However, it seems to be running very slow despite having 3gb ram. I upgraded it to Windows 7 last month but it has been fine until Friday of last week. My other half has some knowledge to enable me to get back to a restore point but other than that, I think it may need someone to look at it as something is definitely not right! Hope thats enough info!

Hi, I always use a company in Chesterfield called Laptop Specialists. I tried to change the screen on my laptop myself and had so many issues. Took it to them and they sorted it out for about £20. I think they offer a free collection as well but best checking with them.
