I'm not giving them a hard time, I would like to see this to work. I take on board your comments about the casino and taxis pulling up at 7 am, but surely this would be the same problem if a private operator rented the car park. Why not start the car boot sale at a later time, say 9am? This would alleviate this problem. Why on earth they all start so early is beyond me. There is no fixed rule that car boots should start at 6am, I have visited some that start later - Twin Oaks, prime example. Starts Saturday dinner time and it is huge.

I think they have tried very hard to make this event work, but appear not to get the right advice. However, credit to them they have taken on board comments about 70p entrance fee for buyers, and they have now dropped this. Hurray! I wish them well. :)

i agree with everything bianco says the reason hillsborough is so sucsessfull is because of yhe 8 oclock start i think 9 am start would be really good at owlerton. what happened to the one that started in the hissborough park car park.

I also think a regular car boot sale on either Saturday or Sunday would be great at Owlerton Stadium, or would they let someone use Hillsborough Park to hold one?

The sellers and buyers I talked to said we really need something throughout the winter now Blonk Street has gone. A later start (7am) seemed popular too. The free admission is a must.

To everyone else who attends car boots throughout the summer, please give this your support and eventually we might make this into a great all year round car boot:)

Making it every week all year round is unfair to the smaller car boots who do them to raise money for their charities, usually during the summer months only.

If Owlerton would keep to one a month May to September and then have them every week I would support them and encourage our sellers/buyers to use them but as they are greedy and want to do them every week all year round they do not have our support as they jepodise our fundraising attempts.

So if they make it fair to everyone especially volunteers who run them for no profit for themselves they would get more mutual support.

In answer to your questions

1) The Casino own one fifth of the car park between the hours of 5pm and 7am on Sunday morning. The entire left side in front of the casino.

2) The Church utilize the upper part of the car park next to Penistone road.

3) The Motor Bike training school utilize another fifth of the car park directly in the centre between 8.30am and 5pm.

By those silly mistakes I assume you mean charging entry fees and times? Those silly mistakes were to cover the costs of public liability insurance, Market license fees and wages of the staff we require on the property under the Safety at Sports Grounds Act 1975. We did not want to waiver this cost, and in turn charge traders more. Anyway, we are now looking at moving areas of car park ownership around to try to utilize the greatest amount of free space possible. Should this prove successful we will then be applying for planning permission to hold the carboot then we will be talking about suitable times to hold an event and from the posts already made I am led to believe an afternoon one would be preferable? I believe from your post you are not too clued up with actually organising events.

Please think of other organisers when you apply for planning permission, as I have replied to another post, charity fundraisers who organise car boots for no financial gain to themselves but for their charities would like things to be fair all round. If you could limit your car boots to one a month in the summer May - September and then have them weekly the rest of the year you would get lots of free advertising from us to help promote your commercial venture!

We are only asking for a chance to raise our necessary funds with an event that I and you know is usually very lucrative so appreciate all the work needed to organise, hoops to jump through and costs to actually put them on,

thanks.
