mike53   10 #57 Posted May 8, 2011 I and my partner paid £14,950 for our first house in Waterthorpe (late seventies). It seemed like a massive amount of money at the time.  I had sleepless nights thinking about how I was gonna afford the repayments ! hennypenny   10 #60 Posted May 19, 2011 Dad paid £1,200 for his first house in 1953, a 5 bed semi in Hillsborough. He is still there, but it is probably worth around £200,000 now.  I paid £6,000 for my first house in 1980, sold it for £7,500 6 months later, went through a few more houses making profit each time, then settled where I am now in a 4 bed end terrace in Hillsborough, which was £25,000 in 1987 and is probably worth around £180,000 now.  I do feel for young couples these days, I can't see how they can manage to buy a house, especially if they have both got student debt to repay as well.
