We've usually found the easier option to be to hire a scooter at the other end; most areas are covered by a Shopmobility scheme, and ones that aren't have private wheelchair-hire companies available. We usually pay between £40 and £60 for five days.

You could investigate that option; you may well find that you'll get one or two PMs from people who'd be willing to transport you and your scooter, provided you cover the cost of their petrol. I'd offer to do that myself but a large-size mobility scooter won't fit in our car, which is why we end up hiring them.
