Why does Avast suddenly hate SF?

Problem is reported as -

My avast just updated now i got the same problems.

Edit: manually updating Avast produces the warning that blocks the site.

Turning off heuristics and the page still doesn't load, so its not a problem with the heuristics.

ive just spent half an hour trying to access sf

 

tried rebooting........no difference

tried clearing my cache.........no difference, apart from i had to log back into all my forums

 

i couldnt access sfs main page for ages, i posted it for some other guys online to see if they could, they could.

they posted links to various parts of sf, strangely the homepage and all the forums i couldnt access, my profile / and related bits i could, the memberslist i could, the business bit and the help bit i could........oh and the chat room works

 

i could access the most recent threads bit and saw this title so i disabled my avast shields and voila i can post

 

wouldnt work on opera, firefox and IE

I've had to disable to view this thread....I'm running the free avast, don't know how to stop it blocking sf.

i could access the most recent threads bit and saw this title so i disabled my avast shields and voila i can post

 

Just disable the web shield not the other shields (but make sure you have the spybot browser immunisations, and only use a secure browser like opera or firefox with ad block.)

i dont use spybot, found it useless when it mattered, i use malwarebytes now instead

i tried adding the forums url as an exclusion, turned back on the shield and wammo, it screwed it up again

Spybot is still useful for its browser and hosts immunisations; most don't bother with the scanner (although it's recently been updated and is significantly faster). Malwarebytes won't help prevent a web-based infection, unless you are using the realtime guard from it.

 

You need to add the exclusion correctly:

http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/* and it's fine

HOW TO SORT IT

 

in avast go to

 

real time shields

web shield

expert settings

exclusions

enter http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk if that url DOESNT work try http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/*

 

then you can keep ALL shields running including web, worked for me anyway
