Beer Barrel   10 #1 Posted March 10, 2011 (edited) Does anyone know what happened to the stone from the old Orgreave Hall which was demolishedin the 90s to make way for the opencast mining ? The hall was down the lane from Rotherham Road cross roads at Handsworth. i was under the impression that the stone was going to be used in building a community hall in the area ?  http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://lh.matthewbeckett.com/graphics/houses/lh_yorkshire_orgreavehall_fs.jpg&imgrefurl=http://lh.matthewbeckett.com/houses/lh_yorkshire_orgreavehall_info_gallery.html&usg=__kwNE30Y3dmqkjXzphXc3Y33Dito=&h=320&w=500&sz=71&hl=en&start=13&zoom=1&tbnid=j2cLG2dW5kwEZM:&tbnh=83&tbnw=130&ei=yfx4TcqSOoiAhQeEtZTyBg&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dorgreave%2Bhall%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Dactive%26sa%3DN%26rlz%3D1T4ADFA_enGB339GB377%26tbs%3Disch:1&um=1&itbs=1 Edited September 9, 2020 by nikki-red
 Share this content via...

Did you have any connection with Orgreave Hall? Also, Rotherwood Hall seems to be missing from the list of demolished buildings on the web site you posted. http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/s/o/r/Timothy-M-Sorby/PHOTO/0022photo.html Edited March 12, 2011 by Downsunder
 Share this content via...
Fogey   10 #4 Posted March 12, 2011 I believe the Rotherham Red Sandstone may have been used on the Moorgate Crofts Business Incubation Centre development.  http://www.ridobusinesscentres.co.uk/moorgate-crofts
 Share this content via...

Downsunder   10 #7 Posted March 14, 2011 Hi , i had no connection other than i used to enjoy playing snooker at the Hall in the 70s. I remember Rotherwood Hall and the adjacent rookery. Did you have any connection ? did you used to live in the area ?  I lived at Hackenthorpe, then Firvale and worked at Orgreave Coke ovens from 1966 to 1972. Rotherwood Hall served as offices for the coke ovens and also our social club. I spent many enjoyable evenings there playing darts and snooker, listening to music and just chatting with all the young guys and girls who worked at the plant. I never visited Orgreave Hall and only found out recently that they had both been demolished. I tried to find out some of the history of Rotherwood and contacted someone in the US whose parents and grandparents had lived there through both wars. He sent me a couple of family photos of the Hall. They are fantastic.
 Share this content via...
Tone W Â Â 10 #8 Posted March 14, 2011 I used to drink in there in the mid 80's. Used to be ran by a woman called Dot as i remember. Nice old place, still had old servants quarters to rear.
 Share this content via...
