I'm moving to Dore and am looking for a reputable childminder for my son who is nearly 5 and has autism.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

Doesn't he need special care if he's got autism? I am not being sarcastic or funny btw - I genuinely don't know. But I would have guessed that an autistic child would need a childminder of experience in handling autistic children.

In which case you could do worse than ask at the Primary School in Dore Village - which has some staff who are specially trained to handle such children and they may be able to put you on to someone locally.

No, it's a fair comment, which is why I mentioned that he had autism in my post.

My son attends the special needs school in Dore Village and yes, he certainly needs more attention than your average child but he integrated well into his current childcare setting and many childminders do have special needs experience and /or are willing to take on the extra responsibility of caring for a child with Autism.

I posted on the forum as I'm trying to exhaust all avenues to find the right person. I've found it quite difficult to access information on individuals/organisations who can help with childcare for children who have additional needs.

Hello my names Ashleigh-jade, I am 20 years old. I am currently at university studying paediatric nursing this means I have a current up to date CRB. I am excellent with children and I am very trustworthy. I am also flexible. Hope to hear from you soon. My number is 07870505767 feel free to text or ring. I have work with disabled children and any ages. I don't mind how many children there are as I am capable of looking after them. Willing to take them out for the day, e.g. Swimming.

Thank you.

Sorry, but the above in itself is not sufficient for you to be offering your services: are you registered with Ofsted to offer childcare? The number of children DOES matter - you can't just have any number you feel like. I'm sure your offer is well-meant but is naive at best, scary at worst!

Just read your other posts: just to be clear, childminding is very different to babysitting. Good luck with the latter: you're obviously trying to earn a bit of cash and you may well get a few nibbles for that. I did a bit of it myself when I was a teaching student.

Does every babysitter need to be ofsted registered? As i dont believe 16 year olds who post on here have been registered? And I meant from the same family, not from a number of different families. But I apologise if I wasn't clear enough. I think I am more than capable to help a family out with babysitting.

Hi - no, they don't. It was because you were replying in a thread about childminders (who DO need to be Ofsted registered). That's why I added the second bit, when I realised you were talking about babysitting. Hope that's clearer (perhaps I confused things a little - sorry :)).

The second link takes you to a fact sheet about when you need to register and when not. Hope this helps.

Hello,

I am a newly registered childminder living on City Road, S2.

I am Ofsted registered with an up to date CRB check.

I have also had first aid training, safeguarding training and have a food hygiene certificate.

I currently work as a school teacher, but I am leaving this job at Easter to begin childminding. I live with my husband and our 16 month old son.

I will work Monday to Friday from 7:30am until 6:30pm (also willing to be flexible), during term time and school holidays.

Please message me for more details.

Laura Passo

Hello

There is a team of childminders in Sheffield who are DCATCH childminders. We have undertaken additional training to care for children with additional needs. One of the workshops that participants had to attend was caring for children with Autism.

Give Sheffield Information Link a call on 01142756699 and ask for a specialist search for a childminder with experience of caring for children with autism or a DCATCH childminder

MOD:

should this post be moved to the babysitting thread where there would be less confusion about the type of care the poster is offering??
