'Farm' in Crosspool - history?

Recommended Posts

I went past here yesterday and wondered what was going on ... no doubt the developers will cram as many houses as possible onto the land.

I've just been given a very beautiful geological map of Sheffield dated 1850 which quite plainly shows the farm, virtually everything around being just fields, with Lydgate Hall being the closest other building. Crookes hardly exists and neither Crosspool. Being a geological map, there're quite a lot of quarries shown in the area, with a description of what kind of stone was quarried ... also coal seams.
