megalithic   10 #98 Posted April 16, 2013 I'd like to see this too and it's a really clear sky tonight ... which direction should I look in? (apart from the blatantly obvious)  To the West mate, though it's only 17 degrees above the horizon, and about as bright as Polaris.  ---------- Post added 16-04-2013 at 22:50 ----------  There's also an Iridium flare that's quite bright later, to the WSW at 1 minute after midnight, if your up late. sjalsip   10 #101 Posted April 16, 2013 (edited) Can see it from High Green, well it's the brightest thing I can see apart from the moon  Well, the thing I was looking at isn't moving. But I just spotted something similar moving really fast in the sky, not flickering or anything. So I guess that was it? allwednesday   11 #103 Posted April 16, 2013 All I bit funny really even the wife's got her head stuck out of the bedroom window now. Look like staying up till midnight to see this Iridium flare.
 Share this content via...
Alcoblog   10 #104 Posted April 16, 2013 Didn't see the ISS although I stood on the Bolehills. Not surprising really as it's dark now and they'd probably turned the lights off and gone to bed (or just closed the curtains?)  I'll go and look for the iridium flare in half an hour though. Happ Hazzard   10 #105 Posted April 16, 2013 I saw it earlier, my mate said it was a moon, I replied "that's no moon, that's an international space station".
 Share this content via...
megalithic   10 #106 Posted April 16, 2013 Just remember, with the Iridiums they start off very dim and gradually brighten to their peak over a minute or so, so keep scanning the sky for anything moving at the exact time. Frequently people miss them right up until their peak.
 Share this content via...
