chimay   10 #2 Posted February 25, 2011 I had plantarfasilitis for a couple of years before I got an appointment to see a physiotherapist.  I was told not to wear 'clogs'. Low wedge heels are good. The inserts I was told to use were gel heel inserts. For slippers I used 'party heels' but for shoes I got a more robust insert. The exercises I had to do included scrutching my toes up and then stretching them out and stretching my toes up as if they're trying to touch the front of my leg. Calf stretching helped. But what was really good was when the physio taped up my foot in a sort of criss cross pattern. It took over 9 months for the pain to go away. Walking barefoot or wearing flat shoes/sandals is a big no no. I found some good advice on a website including diagrams for exercises. I hope that your problem is soon sorted out. dhs1 Â Â 10 #3 Posted February 26, 2011 Second the not walking barefoot or in flatties. At first this felt weird as I'd always gone barefoot in house but I was advised to wear shoes (not slipper) indoors. took a long time but the pain did ease eventually. chimay   10 #5 Posted March 2, 2011 ahh thanks for replies i was begining to think i was the only one lol  i went to see the consultant the day i posted and am awaiting an apointment to see about the insoles will they show me the taping thingy at that appointment the man i saw just really sed what i had and gave me verry little advice x thanks for replies  I saw the physiotherapist once a week whilst she did the taping. I had to leave it on as long as possible but it usually only stayed in place for 4 or 5 days. I couldn't do the taping myself. Please let us know how you get on. littlejimbo   10 #6 Posted March 2, 2011 Hi, I diagnosed this myself, I've had it for nearly a year, the pain now lasts for most of the day . I've tried all sorts, insoles, taping and a night splint. I've finally gone to see my GP about it and had a steroid injection. I think it's improving, still need to wait and see though. hotrock   10 #7 Posted March 3, 2011 i have just had my second round of injections to my heels at Rotherham Hospital, by god it hurts like hell!!!!!, the specialist has said that if after the third and final injection, the pain is no better he will have to operate aaarrrggghhh, as though the injections were not bad enough, lol. My physio has been a waste of time, she is based at the Royal Hallamshire and she keeps trying to get me to spend more and more money every time i see her, Pilate's classes, (run by her) Pilate's DVD (made by her friend). After reading this thread though i have learnt a few things, like i have been told nothing about not walking around barefoot, or in flip flops, i practically live barefoot or in flip flops and have done for the last 20 years, since i was in the military wearing heavy duty combat boots for the best part of the day, there was no better feeling than going barefoot, or wearing open toed sandals. i may have to rethink my footwear situation lol. Darth Vader   10 #8 Posted March 3, 2011 (edited) After suffering the unbearable pain of this for months. I saw a fantastic GP who said if I didn't do what he said immediately and religiously then I'd have to have the operation which he really didn't recommend! His advice was.... NEVER take a step without a good supportive padded trainer (wear them right up until you take your feet off the floor to go to bed, and make sure you don't step in the night for a loo trip, or first thing in morning without them) NEVER go from a resting position (including after a period of sleep) straight to walking in your trainer - ALWAYS stretch your calf muscles, do curl-ups with your toes, move your ankes in circles, etc, to relax and prepare your feet before they touch the ground (in your trainer of course) again - as THIS is when the most damage is done, as your feet are shocked from the resting position. I'll be forever in his debt for this advice, that cured my feet, eventually, and saved me from operations.  hotrock, I have always loved going barefoot and in flip flops, even in winter! and it's one of the biggest causes of plantar fasciitis I'm afraid. However, I now walk barefoot quite a bit now, but very rarely in flip flops - as this causes you to constantly tense parts of the foot which can cause reocurrences. They work a treat for me especially as shoes I've worn whilst suffering from plantar fasilitis have worn down unevenly through my limp. mikewain   10 #11 Posted April 18, 2011 Hi I suffer with this condition, and know the pain only too well. I visited the doctor on Friday who is now prescribing Volturan emulgel to massage into my foot twice a day, plus the pain killers he had already prescribed. He also gave me a sheet of foot excersises that he downloaded from a site callled Dr foot. Told me to get a pair of higher heel shoes or better still Trainers like Nike Air that offer better instep support and a softer tread. I will keep you posted as to progress! Aries22 Â Â 10 #12 Posted April 19, 2011 Not had this personally, but do often get foot pain, a trip to the chiropodist usually sorts it out.
 Share this content via...
