Cholesteatoma in both ears

Recommended Posts

Maybe such a serious condition needs a discussion with a Consultant ENT Specialist to get to the bottom of the situation. There are well meaning folk on here, but maybe there are many different outcomes relating to the severity of the ailment which only a Specialist can advise on.

For someone to have been diagnosed with cholesteatoma then they must've seen a consultant, we are not trying to diagnose eachothers ailments, just suporting eachother in the years of monitoring that follows this horrible disease. Once discovered and operated on it requires regular lifelong checks to catch it should it re-appear(which it quite often does)

Its a nasty life changing and sometimes lifethreatening disease and the operation carries huge risks. The consultants/ent specialists can only offer medical advice, sometimes its good to talk to people that have gone through it and come out the other side.

Well had my operation, and all I can say is nothing could have prepared me for this. So to all the people out there wanting the quiet life, be carefully what you wish for.

I wish you all the luck in the world, trouble is we don't really have a choice over it because ignoring it can cause more harm than good :-)

Thanks jonny but at least I don't feel quite so scared now that I know that it can turn out ok. It's amazing though just what they can do and I suppose that we should be thankful that ours was found and treated.
