gnvqsos   10 #313 Posted February 20, 2013  I get it alright.   I note you are fan of the Stones. Saw them at the City Hall in the late 50s I don't think they sang over a tape now they were a fantastic group.   In the late 50s the Stones were either at school or LSE;do you mean the late 60s?Perhaps you meant you saw the Stones in their late 50s? matsalleh   10 #316 Posted February 21, 2013 Did you see the massive coverage about the Leeds Big Wheel? I cant recall Sheffield getting that airtime when it was in Fargate, I think if Christa Ackroyd farted, it would have an in depth analysis of the quality of the sound and rated on the "Smell-o-Meter" in fact it would take centre stage over a murder in Sheffield  Don't forget she personally has brought the Tour de France to leeds and Harrogate. deanprez   10 #318 Posted February 21, 2013 More obsession with Leeds.....(it'll be even worse when the fantastic new (not a fiver to park and is in the city centre) arena opens !  Lived in Sheffield all my 47 years .....and seen with my own eyes how much it's declined .... For 40 of those years (ish) i've been going to Leeds to watch my favourite football team Leeds United and i've seen how much Leeds as a city has grown.  The cities don't compare......Leeds is a far nicer, cleaner city with fabulous shopping centres....bars and pubs that cater for different tastes.  Anyway.....back on track.........It's just the same with the Sheffield Star........I'm sick of reading about some wheelbarrow thief from Rotherham,or a wheelie bin burner from Wingerworth !  And speaking of Calendar.....i get the 'yorkshire' version........while my dear old mum who lives 100 yards away get's the 'Lincolnshire' version !  Not keen of look north ........met Christa in Valencia during our champions league days and she came accross as completely stuck up ! AND as for that wetherman ......grrrrr don't get me started on him.....never like him since he showed his 'we all hate Leeds' mug off on tele !   Bring back Richard Whitely and the Ferret ! Jonny5   10 #320 Posted February 21, 2013 bars and pubs that cater for different tastes.Sheffields best bars and pubs are streets ahead of Leeds. Or anywhere in the country. The cities don't compare......Leeds is a far nicer, cleaner city with fabulous shopping centres.... Sheffield has better parks and its best areas rival anywhere. What brings Sheff down is its shopping area. Which frankly is a nasty joke.  Finally Leeds is culturally a black hole. Damien Hirst & Kaiser Chiefs anyone? Thought not:)
 Share this content via...
dafodil   10 #321 Posted February 21, 2013 After years of watching the all things Leeds Bradford bias on look North I decided to try Calender on ITV. last night. Not much difference I am afraid but the presenters were not as bias as the BBC lot. Perhaps Rhoni Robinson and Toby Foster can bring this to the attention of the powers that be at head office. master_p   10 #323 Posted February 21, 2013 If you think its bad now on look north, wait until trinity shopping centre opens. There will be an entire program dedicated to it telling us how Leeds now rivals Paris and Milan for shopping.  Leeds arena will get a bit of free publicity as well when it opens. It will be sold as the worlds greatest entertainment venue and unique like no other, despite most other cities having an arena for at least 10 years
 Share this content via...
mpchooligan   10 #324 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) If you think its bad now on look north, wait until trinity shopping centre opens. There will be an entire program dedicated to it telling us how Leeds now rivals Paris and Milan for shopping. Leeds arena will get a bit of free publicity as well when it opens. It will be sold as the worlds greatest entertainment venue and unique like no other, despite most other cities having an arena for at least 10 years  I'm living in Leeds here...  Most Leeds people including me love Sheffield. Places i have been to in Sheffield are cleaner, friendlier and i love the close distance the Peaks is.  The countryside around Leeds just doesn't compare or have the same charm. People here seem to have a real problem. Despite the news of murders, etc, I feel safer in Sheffield than Leeds.  Matter of fact I WISH we had a Supertram here. The Supertram is great. Sheffield people don't realise what a great tram system they have! Travelling around Leeds sucks. It's travel system is absolutely crap and it simply cannot take the amount of people that come here everyday.  Sheffield feels more local. You're more likely to bump into someone from Sheffield in Sheffield. Leeds is cold and full of southerners and southern graduates who work in finance or law who've moved up to Leeds because its cheaper than London.  I have to admit though that shopping is where Sheffield seriously lacks. Leeds is better for 'social shoppers'. Nightlife and shopping is the draw for most people. You see all the girls, hipsters, city workers and young people hanging around city centre. Shopping isn't about simply buying anymore. Shopping is a day out. It's like a trip to the funfair without the admission or rides. The church of shopping. Going to a far out retail park like Meadowhell just isn't the same as a city centre where there's more choice. In Leeds you have your choice of bars and food outlets. in Meadowhall you're stuck with what the Oasis has to offer. Its just a better place to hang round as a young person. it's a youthful city. There's way more specialist nights and much more of a choice in terms of nightlife attracting big underground names. From what I can remember Sheffield was all rock, indie and metal and cheesy student music and real ale.  Sheffield feels confused. It doesn't know what it wants to be. Sheffield just can't be a copycat Leeds or Manchester. It should do what it does best. Sheffield FEELS like Yorkshire Leeds doesn't. It feels like Manchester in Yorkshire.  The rest of West Yorkshire sucks btw. Don't know why they get so much publicity on Look North. Huddersfield only has the University going for it (a very good one), Dewsbury sucks and Bradford is a crumbling hole. Wakey is just a place where place where people who commute to Leeds to work live. It's same with Hudds as well. Edited February 22, 2013 by mpchooligan
 Share this content via...
