geared   301 #13 Posted June 20, 2013 You've checked it's not just the oil that needs changing right?  Pull the dipstick for the auto-box fluid and check the colour and smell.  It's it's a dark brown and smells kinda burny or like burnt toast then it's defiantly past it's best, and an oil change might be all you need. I actually paid another garage to change the gear-box oil for me, a job that I suspect they haven't done right, as the side top up lug is damp, but the drain off plug is bone dry. I'd say it's not been touched (drain plug) since the van was built. I think they just topped it up, which isn't what was asked for or paid for. Thing with most garages is they don't expect the customer to have a nosey at a job they've just done, especially if it means hoisting the vehicle up and checking underneath.  Geared, next engine oil change I'll be doing the GB again too.
