Im haveing issues with bull breeds

Recommended Posts

i dont this thread to make people not want bull breads though

id feel realy bad if that happernd

You have not made people feel that way. They are just not the right dog for some people.

I think Bogwoppit, Diamond and I all have dogs that have had bad starts so are extra hard to deal with, we see the pieces that have to be picked up after the original owners have dumped the dog because they never trained them and allowed them to get away with poor behaviour. If prolonged it can ruin the dog as it knows no better and they get to an age and state that the behaviours are unchangeable and instead have to be modified and managed carefully.

Managing aggressive behaviour is not fun, it is hard work, isolating and soul destroying. Gruffler and Diamond are both lovely dogs  , (just like D), but very hard and dedicated work which is not for everyone.

it can be really hard once you've put as much work as we all have into our bullies to agree with people who say they make the best family pets. They can do, most definitely, but they need a good firm hand, socialising and training well when young or else they turn out like our lot! (Sorry Diamond, I haven't actually met your D so I shouldn't comment, I hope you're not offended).

no offense taken bogwoppit lol you know exactly where im coming from and love gruffler just as much as i love my monster i suspect.

I am glad to see that others agree with me. I dont want the thread to turn into a negative on all bull breeds either that isnt my intention to turn people against the breed. however i think it is actually helpful to have accurate and truthful expereinces regarding bull breeds instead of the usual love/hate debate that surrounds them on the forum. Their plight will never improve if they keep their current popularity/status- they are very difficult dogs to handle when you are not experienced with them and this should be made clear to potential owners. I feel this is how the breed got into the state it is currently and why so many people have bad experiences with them. As evei said they do have some great points aswell diamond is fantasticly behaved in the house and is fiercley loyal to me and my oh.

I have no idea why you're bragging and laughing about how your previous dog 'could do damage'. Irresponsible is the word that springs to mind. Thoughtless is another. Fabcakes didn't post here to find out who thinks it's funny to own an aggressive dog which they plainly can't read or control, she posted for support, help and reassurance

HAT THE HELL IS ALL THAT ABOUT, i never bragged about anything i was exlaining how i understand why she is scared of them and from my own experience of actualy owning a bull breed that as queit aggressive to dogs, that i would never ever ever brag about i as ashamed of it and think its awfull

i never said for one second i thought it was funny thats sick even to presume so:rant:

its not that i cant read dogs, anybody who knew her knew how explosive she was you really couldent tell hen she would flip there was no que's, i am not irresponsible never have been never had that problem with anyother dog in my life and can read ques in most dogs but she was difficult so please dont make my post out to be bad that i as happy about her becouse i wasent

Mummysaz I think it's because you put lol at the end of your post.

I think the  is a misunderstanding. Sometimes you laugh out of desperation and the situation, otherwise you would cry

Fabcakes I would love for you to meet Max (DDB cross god knows what but looks like a small DDB) but I know he would take advantage if he picked up you were scared off him so it wouldn't be a good combination. I am still working with him on this issue but its hard to find people scared of dogs willing to try and overcome their fear with a dog like mine!!!

Strix, I understand what you have said about reading dogs, and Max to me is like an open book. I joke that he has thought bubbles like cartoon, as he never acts on impulse he always thinks first. My friend says he's the most predictable unpredictable dog you can meet, i.e. you can't say he will be good with every dog but you know at least 10 seconds before if he is going to be nasty, and now I have learnt to redirect him! I don't know if that makes me a responsible owner because I can read my dog, or irresponsible because I still own a large dog that is not 100% in every situation.

Having said all that I looked after Mummysaz's dog, she was extremely unpredictable. I am sure she gave signals but they must have been small and fast. She definately did not think things through like Max does.

Having said all that I love bull breeds and would definately have another one (now if Max would let me) as the rewards are worth the struggle (i probably wouldn't have said that 2 years ago when Max was driving me mad)!!

I own a Staffordshire Bull terrier (my 2nd), but if i was out in the street and one came my way i too would be very wary!!

I always pick my little one up if i see any dogcoming our way as you just never know.

Luckily my two have been lovely dogs with human and animal. But you just never know.

If you would like to meet my little man, he is only 6 months old and would most probably lick you to death, he is however big and the same size as my first staffordshire was fully grown! :)
