I think that you have to take the hit for your honesty, a dishonest person might try to palm it off on some unsespecting recipient.

If it came from an ATM, which ATM? You can take it into the bank of that ATM ask them if there is anything you can do. Really doubt you can claim it back though.

I'm not saying you aren't telling the truth, but thought all notes put into a ATM are all checked so no fake notes get through, I may be wrong but just can't see it.
