Newgirl04   10 #37 Posted March 14, 2011 ok, you obviously didnt read all my posts and have jumped to some assumptions. first off, you cant see our rear roof height on streetview, so they didnt use google earth for that. the only view from google is a top down view of the front of the house. we live off the end of a cul-de-sac lane, where the streetview van didnt come to the back, so you can only see the front of the house. there are no houses or roads behind our property, which is why a surveyor would need to look at it. It is definately south facing though, please give us some credit. at the back is a large, fully south facing roof, which doesnt get any shading from the trees in the woods behind, as they are just under the roof height, and too far to throw shade onto the roof. i explained all this fully, to the GIRL who answers their emails. at no point has a surveyor (male or female) physically looked at the house, and google streetview as a defence wont cut it i'm afraid. We are surrounded by trees, which are lower than our roof, so they obviously decided it would throw shade without any ACTUAL proof.  i have no probs with women, i work with a chartered building surveyor who is female, i am also a fully qualified electrical engineer with 25+yrs experience of electrical installations and qualifications in electrical engineering, i have some experience of roofing and building construction, and am just about able to deduce my roof is of large enough area, and south facing , to warrant a proper inspection.  and all of this was put in some detail to the GIRL at ASG who replied to my 2 enquiry emails. on my 3rd email, when i asked her to explain how they used google earth to deduce the height of the trees at the back, where u cant see on streetview, they started ignoring the emails and blanked me.  that is what i take as being unprofessional, and fair enough if they just admit that they cut costs by cutting corners i can accept it. if the tree in my back garden is a little close to call, i offered to top it ready for the surveyor visit, which was also blanked.  therefore i will ask a more reputable company who will make their money upfront on selling me a system and install to take a look.    I am sure that anyone selling you a system will DEFINITELY tell you that your roof is absolutely suitable - what a surprise that will be:D  Maybe the 'GIRLS' at ASG just got fed up with your condescending tone and decided to stop responding to your emails.  If you can afford it why bother going for a free system in the first place??? If I had the money, I'd buy and get the FIT payments.
 Share this content via...
ChrisT70   10 #38 Posted March 14, 2011 (edited) I am sure that anyone selling you a system will DEFINITELY tell you that your roof is absolutely suitable - what a surprise that will be:D Maybe the 'GIRLS' at ASG just got fed up with your condescending tone and decided to stop responding to your emails.  If you can afford it why bother going for a free system in the first place??? If I had the money, I'd buy and get the FIT payments.  ok, you believe it was condescending in tone email to her if you like, i kept copies of the 2 emails for reference only, and simply asked for a clear answer about the so called shading issue -which i didnt get, nor a reply.  out of interest what do you make of the other poster on this thread who got right up to scaffolding being supplied before ASG pulled out? sound professional to you? not to me or that person  Yes i could probably afford the £12k if need be, at the minute tho i havent got £12k ready cash as my savings are newly tied up in certain shares currently while the market is low (and savings accounts are paying sweet FA), so a free install would have been nice. i have what i believe is a very suitable south facing roof, so would have been daft not to get interested by the very convincing ASG website and TV articles about them.  I would also have been happy to just take the (slight) reduction in bills in return for no capital outlay. the feed in tariffs are only guaranteed to about 2013/14 at present rates for new installs and it may well be time to invest in one if a good payback plus profit is guaranteed.  you obviously feel ASG are great, thats your perogative, i would probably be more generous toward them like you if i had a free system, i also wouldnt be having a pop if they had actually viewed the roof and said no, rather than allowing an email operative to vet "suitable" properties using google, or if they said in their website they use google earth as the selection tool after a long wait for any response.  anyway, each to their own,you are happy, in all honesty i dont give a toss about ASG or how well they do on the limited specific jobs they take on, its non of my interest, i will sort my own deal out if its suitable and pays back in 10yrs or less. kippax   10 #43 Posted April 15, 2011 cracking investment, even if you pay for it yourself  You get 10% yield plus cheap electric, not many places you will get a 10% yeild on your money  If you have the free install you must get the mortgage lenders permission as the roof will be leased
 Share this content via...

cookingfat50 Â Â 10 #45 Posted April 16, 2011 We were told by this company that our roof was unsuitable, yet it is the highest on the street and faces south, and with no trees around. What's that all about then?
 Share this content via...

Quint   10 #47 Posted April 19, 2011 We were told by this company that our roof was unsuitable, yet it is the highest on the street and faces south, and with no trees around. What's that all about then?  How big is your roof? If it is not big enough for them to fit enough panels they will turn you down. ASG will pick and choose which homes to install 'FREE' panels depending on how much return they will get from it.
 Share this content via...
