Delayed   461 #1 Posted January 20, 2011 Hi,  To any experienced photographer in Sheffield. Does Sheffield Train Station have any concerns with taking photos from inside the station?  I want to get some snaps of moving trains but I don't want to dive straight in if they are picky about this kind of thing.  I can't see why they would but it's better to safe than sorry.  Thanks. karl101 Â Â 10 #2 Posted January 20, 2011 I spent an hour the other day wandering round taking pictures, nobody said anything. But I kept out of the way and had a ticket for travel. I was trying to look like someone getting bored waiting for a train. :-) Â Â Â K. holymoses   10 #3 Posted January 20, 2011 There used to be a platform ticket machine 10p a ticket, not so long ago. Only noticed when I was meeting someone of a train.
 Share this content via...
Delayed   461 #4 Posted January 20, 2011 Do you think security would mind if I didn't intend to travel anywhere?  Wouldn't want to pay for a ticket without the intention of travelling. Alternatively, I suppose I could just take pictures of the trams instead.
 Share this content via...
ndegwa   10 #5 Posted January 20, 2011 Go strait to managers office he will let you know what the rules are. Did this many years ago. Had no problems taking pics.
 Share this content via...
karl101 Â Â 10 #6 Posted January 20, 2011 You could go as a train spotter. You'll need a notepad and pen, an anorak, and a pair of spectacles held together with sticky tape. Â K.
 Share this content via...
maxyross   10 #7 Posted January 20, 2011 You are not permitted to take photographs at Sheffield station. However, if you are discreet, nobody will bother you.  The best course of action (which the seasoned trainspotters employ) is to ask any of the staff for the Customer Services Manager and they will normally give permission unless there is a security alert. The CSM will also tell you what you can and can't do so you will be able to confidently get some good shots.
 Share this content via...
dannio   10 #8 Posted January 21, 2011 Yeah,  Best bet is to ask the CSM - They will advise weather they mind you taking some photos and under what provisors you are under.  Try going to the enquiries office on Platform 5.
 Share this content via...
mjeffries   10 #9 Posted January 21, 2011 Ask and then snap away. I'd be very surprised if you got escorted off of the premises. Although that would make for some interesting photo's anyway.
 Share this content via...
Delayed   461 #10 Posted January 23, 2011 Thanks for the advice ladies and gents. I managed to get into the station no problems. I made it my intention to speak with the Station or Customer Service Manager and ask before I set about taking photos. Unfortunately, with it being a Sunday I couldn't find anyone.  With that in mind I just set my camera up toward the end of platform 5 (with the trainspotters). Here's the results. I'm not happy with these pictures. It is a weak attempt at motion blur in Black/White. Settings used were F13, ISO 400 (it was overcast but may have been better with 200) and 0.5 of a second.
 Share this content via...
