Where do their wages come from then?

 

The funding I believe comes from a mixture of:

 

Central government

Local taxation (council tax)

Revenue generated (through fees and fines)

 

Basically the same as every other post within the council.

This is incorrect. Parking Services is self funding so doesn't need to take any money from central government or council tax. In fact they generate a surplus that is invested back into highway maintenance. See p30 of the annual report.

Even better then, so parking services are totally funded by morons who park illegally or cause obstructions for other motorists!

If they went down Fir Vale area (near Northern General Hospital) they would earn their salaries in one hour!

In fact if they stood outside co-op in Town and got all the black cab drivers that park on doubles, in cycle lane opposite police station EVERY DAY they would be earning their keep!

Why is it a waste of money? As has been posted earlier, the department is totally self funded by the income they generate from idiots who think they can break traffic and parking regulations.

 

So, they pay for themselves and it appears generate a surplus amount that goes back into funding other council services. All done by penalising idiots. Brilliant service. They also help keep bus lanes clear of obstructions, stop people parking in dangerous places and make sure that car parking spaces are available because people do not overstay.

I know that the parking wardens that go round the car parks up near The Walkabout pub area had to have the Police present because of all the hassle they got.

Maybe that's the reason 4 of them go round together in the van now?
