Replacing Transit Van side door handles - much of a job?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Thanks to some thieving lowlifes trying (unsucessfully) to break into my empty van they've broken the side door handle so it no longer attachted to the door rrelease mechanism. The van locks fine (lock mechinism is nowhere near the handle anyway hence they couldn't get in) but I do want to be able to use the side door.

Does anyone have expoerience of fitting a new handle on a transit, is it a fairly straighforward job that I should be able to do myself or are specialist tools required. I've not taken the inside panelling off to have a look yet so any advice on how hard the job might be and where the best place to buy a new handle would be much appreciated

If i remember right its two 10mm nuts that hold the door handle, you get at them from inside the door panel, make sure you dont drop the nuts. When the handle is loose you can twist it off the bent bar that it is attached to.

Thanks for that grumps, that ties in with what someone PM'd me earlier. Sounds like it should be fairly straightfoward.

If your at all mechanically minded it's a very simple job.

Put it this way, restringing a strimmer is like doing a Rubik cube in comparison.
