bobbie   10 #1 Posted January 11, 2011 The conservatives are back in and job losses are rampant. Yet again, like before the conservatives get in and people lose their jobs.  Its like the 1980s/1990s all over again, people are out on the streets, people are protesting.  In the 1980s the miners rioted while drinking a cup of bovril to keep warm and in 2010, protesters keep warm with gingerbread latte from Starbucks.  Is it the same old nasty torys, or are the torys simply dealing with the mess left by new labour? emma royd   10 #3 Posted January 11, 2011 Yes they are  Not exactly a difficult question to answer is it?  http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/economics/article5932206.ece   The number of people out of work in Britain was today predicted to rise to 3.3 million by the end of next year, as the Prime Minister admitted that soaring unemployment figures were "a matter of personal regret".  Official figures released this morning showed that the total number of people unemployed, including those not eligible for benefit, had jumped by 165,000 in the quarter to January to hit 2.03 million - the worst figure since 1991, six years before Tony Blair came to power.  No doubt the OP will feel a change of government was factored in by the economists during March 2009. taxman   12 #5 Posted January 11, 2011 You get what you pay for.  Some jobs need doing and must be paid for. Some jobs might not need doing and therefore don't need paying for. The problem is deciding who gets made redundant and who doesn't.
 Share this content via...

Lady Star   10 #8 Posted January 11, 2011 Where were Labour planning to get the money from?  The huge amount of cash that the UK has? We are not a poor country, it's just that the torys want to save the cash (for what?) and tell the ignorant masses that the pot is empty... The rest of Europe is recovering as we are failing - the rest of Europe using ecomonic policy based on the keynesian system, we're being floored by high tazation, high unemployment and low wages... Happy days with the torys again, eh? A government that noone chose, but who were cobbled together after no party won - why aren't we demanding another election? Do you think we should follow the model of Greece and Ireland and borrow our way into oblivion?  http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/economics/8118467/UKs-total-debt-forecast-to-hit-10-trillion-by-2015.html  Britain's total debt will top £10 trillion by 2015, according to PricewaterhouseCoopers, which warned the burden could slow growth for decades as interest rates eventually rise. Joe-b-1 Â Â 10 #12 Posted January 11, 2011 The tories are cutting budgets left right and centre, so they are to blame. Labour were going to spend our way out of recession, like every other leading European country. Â Agreed. The recession is a world recession and the tories are using it to get up to their old tricks. Basically looking after the wealthy while the rest of us can "do one". Unfortunately the young, naive and gullible get swept off their feet by conservative lies but eventually unless they are of the privelidged society then they will get stung in the pocket. They are using the world recession as their excuse to implement policies that they have or have tried to implement every time they have been in power. To CONSERVE for the heartland tories means conserve our wealth at the expense of those who are not wealthy. Soon the privelidged, young(by this I mean people young enough to have the good fortune to not have had to experience a tory government before don't get me wrong they are just as bright as the rest of us but lack experience) naive and gullible will be on here blaming Labour. The immature ones will predictably pronounce this liebour(one will probably refer to names that their coalition has been called to justify this). The real Tories(the ones who want to rob you and me, my friend) will bombard this thread with post after post (the more insecure they get, the more they will post) with what they know are lies but they also know that if they shout loud enough for long enough some people will start to believe them.
