Moving from Sheffield to Scotland, recommend a removal company?

Hi there,

when we moved to Dawlish we used Avante Removals. We had quotes from a couple of the firms you mentioned. SBS were VERY RUDE!! Pickfords were very goods and explained everything clearly but were simply too expensive. I don't know anything about Clockwork. We were very happy with the service we got from Avante. We also had our things stored overnight by them, in Sheffield. They didn't charge any extra for this. I think they are a smaller company with 2 or 3 lorries but they were really lovely!

Good luck going north by the way, we went south as the Sheffield climate just wasn't condusive to old bones!!

Thanks for this, I have been getting some mixed reviews about SBS, so might give them a miss but quite a few people now have given good feedback about Avante so I will probably give them a call.

I've had the full packing service and overnight storage from both SBS and Pickfords. SBS were nice enough and the price was lower than Pickfords but they didn't have a very big team so the process was really slow. Pickfords had a bigger team so were quicker, but as you've discovered they're not cheap

 

Thanks for this info, it's always better to hear from people who have had the same package you are after, I take it you were happy you decided to let them do the packing for you, I am slowly coming round to the idea of that as well, and found that by the time you consider the cost of all packing materials there wasn't all that much difference in price from doing my own packing.

Now got all 3 quotes back, from Pickfords, Specialised Movers and Britannia Movers.

 

Well to my surprise Pickfords is actually the cheapest and by a massive £600!!

 

Still got another couple to go yet though.

No not booked yet, we are due to exchange contracts this week with a removal date for middle of April. I am going to phone Avante Removals tomorrow, then make final decision.
