Anting   10 #1 Posted December 10, 2010 I was told that it's Costco's company policy that their 2 new tyres are fitted to the rear of the car (swap current 2 rear tyres to front). I asked why - all I got was company policy. I said I'm the customer and wanted the new tyres on the front, winter etc - all they kept saying was company policy.  Anybody know the real reason - or a good reason for me?   Thanks...   A
 Share this content via...
Mad Hatter   10 #2 Posted December 10, 2010 It's now generally accepted that it's better to put the new rubber on the back  http://www.tyresafe.org/news-and-events/detail/motorists-get-their-tyres--back-to-front--/
 Share this content via...
smithy266 Â Â 21 #3 Posted December 10, 2010 Lots of research has been done on this subject, accident investigations etc. the NTDA (National Tyre Distributor's Association) has a publication about it, but in essence, it now recommends new rubber on the rear. I was one of the old school, new rubber on the front, but I have been persuaded otherwise.
 Share this content via...
Jess22 Â Â 10 #4 Posted December 10, 2010 Is there any difference to front drive/rear wheel drive?
 Share this content via...
smithy266 Â Â 21 #5 Posted December 10, 2010 <<Is there any difference to front drive/rear wheel drive?>> Â No. A lot of it has to do with aquaplaning. Rear wheels losing control.
 Share this content via...

damo   10 #7 Posted December 10, 2010 I'm glad that I go to Hi Q Tyres of Leppings Lane. . . .  Why? Do they not follow the convention that new rubber is better on the back than the front.  Will steer clear of those then!!!
 Share this content via...
smithy266 Â Â 21 #8 Posted December 10, 2010 <<<Will steer clear of those then!!!>>> Â As long as you have decent front tyres too, eh Damo? Â Looking at the sig though, perhaps there is an interest that could have been declared.
 Share this content via...
