Jack Grey 1,600 #76 Posted January 17, 2022 Loch Fyne which used to be opposite Hallamshire Hospital was the best seafood restaurant in Sheffield. The Fish & Chips was amazing. Unfortunately, it closed a few years ago Too posh for Sheffield probably......maybe they moved to Leeds
 Share this content via...

If you want good seafood in Sheffield, try https://theneonfish.co.uk/ been twice, both times excellent. As is Native, https://www.nativejhmann.co.uk/our-locations I like Whitbys for fish and chips. https://www.whitbysrestaurant.co.uk/ always tastes fresh, presumably cos they have a high turnover of customers. bassett one 439 #79 Posted January 18, 2022 theres also a question? chips and fish cooked in dripping or not? mines dripping for taste a chippy that makes its own batter or not, mines i prefer homemade batter salt &vinegar which first mine is vinegar then salt
 Share this content via...
Jim117 72 #80 Posted January 18, 2022 Bassett one, it’s been so long since I had fish and chips cooked in dripping that I can’t really remember. Definitely vinegar on first so it doesn’t wash the salt off. Ketchup was frowned on in our house when I was a kid, my dad called it “American crap “ though me and my sister liked it. Another thing that I remembered the other day was that chip shop curry sauce used to have sultanas in it. I used to curse and pick them out at the time. I just got used to them and started to enjoy them when the chippys stopped using them.
 Share this content via...

The best fish and chips here in my opinion is The Royal Plaice. Run by a guy from Doncaster, 30 miles away from me but if I'm passing Appledore/Bideford in north Devon I call in. Is Cranns still open? There use to be a good chip shop opposite the Dore and Totley Golf Club, Bradway Fisheries if I remember correctly. The use to do a giant cod and they always chucked you a few chips in. I am having withdrawal symptons for a Yorkshire Fishcake, mmmm!
