Most expensive chippy

Recommended Posts

Was it a chippy or cafe.

Have vague memories of a cafe with lurid Formica topped tables

Loch Fyne which used to be opposite Hallamshire Hospital was the best seafood restaurant in Sheffield.

The Fish & Chips was amazing.

Unfortunately, it closed a few years ago

Too posh for Sheffield probably......maybe they moved to Leeds

Loch Fyne is/was a chain, didn't move anywhere, just closed that one down. https://www.lochfyneseafoodandgrill.co.uk/ Went a few times, thought it was good, not fantastic.

If you want good seafood in Sheffield, try https://theneonfish.co.uk/ been twice, both times excellent. As is Native, https://www.nativejhmann.co.uk/our-locations

I like Whitbys for fish and chips. https://www.whitbysrestaurant.co.uk/ always tastes fresh, presumably cos they have a high turnover of customers.

Bassett one, it’s been so long since I had fish and chips cooked in dripping that I can’t really remember. Definitely vinegar on first so it doesn’t wash the salt off. Ketchup was frowned on in our house when I was a kid, my dad called it “American crap “ though me and my sister liked it. Another thing that I remembered the other day was that chip shop curry sauce used to have sultanas in it. I used to curse and pick them out at the time. I just got used to them and started to enjoy them when the chippys stopped using them.

yeah dixons were always top class, her brother was jack walker who ran a chippy opp the broadfield inn,he always said mrs dixon prided herself as being the most expensive, dont know whether that was fact or not, jacks chips where good,re - rob if you dont like dripping cooked food youwouldnt like his,the queues were bad for his chippy, often 30-40 mins on fri evenings,he went to try another trade, but heard hes at the big chippy/resturant at rotherham, near all them big shops, just off the motorway, his other relations run the 2 in the city centre and attercliffe road, but i will stick to my beloved woodseats fisheries, but will try the new one opening on twentywe,ll lane thats opening soon by a top chef,i hope you find a chippy soon

I use to go in Dixons when I was at the Jordanthorpe Annexe in the village. The  best fish and chips here in my opinion is The Royal Plaice. Run by a guy from Doncaster, 30 miles away from me but if I'm passing Appledore/Bideford in north Devon I call in.  Is Cranns still open? There use to be a good chip shop opposite the Dore and  Totley Golf Club, Bradway Fisheries if I remember correctly. The use to do a giant cod and they always chucked you a few chips in. I am having withdrawal symptons for a Yorkshire Fishcake, mmmm!

Is it a Yorkshire fishcake or a Sheffield fishcake, I used to travel all over Yorkshire with my job, can't remember seeing our fishcakes or even roe on any menu's elsewhere.
