Text message - police warning about driving with snow on car roof

Recommended Posts

If you're really wanting to know whether this is a) correct (legally) and b) going to apply from tomorrow specifically then can I suggest that you PM any of the local police representatives on SF and ask them?

The police are a notoriously hopeless source of information on the law, if they knew what they were talking about they'd be working as solicitors or barristers. The average flat-foot beat-walker knows about as much of the law as my Labrador.

Ask a qualified lawyer or don't bother.

highway code 229

Before you set off

you MUST be able to see, so clear all snow and ice from all your windows

you MUST ensure that lights are clean and number plates are clearly visible and legible

make sure the mirrors are clear and the windows are demisted thoroughly

remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users

check your planned route is clear of delays and that no further snowfalls or severe weather are predicted

[Laws CUR reg 30, RVLR reg 23, VERA sect 43 & RV(DRM)R reg 11]

Thay are not laws.:roll::roll::roll::roll:.

Since when could you get nicked for not checking your route?.

Anyone with excessive amounts of snow on the roof or bonnet of their car can be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention. This has been the situation for many years.

Well it was certainly stated on the news that drivers would be stopped and fined if they hadn't cleared their vehicles properly, wether thay're laws or not.

I have been told that they have been doing this in Grimsby today.

It is stupid to be driving around with snow on the roof of your car anyway, as it is likely to fall off on to the windscreen. :loopy: ristricing your vision.

So what have we learned about our local dibbles today?.

A forumer saw people with their faces covered jump over his neighbours fence and try their back door but didn't phone the dibbles because they have said they are only dealing with life threatening incidents today.

Tomorrow however the dibbles are going to be out in force nicking people with snow on the roofs of their cars.:roll::roll::roll:.

Bobar.

They can't fine you if it's not the law. You can't be fined for breaking rules made up by people on the telly.
