swarfendor437 Â Â 14 #38 Posted December 2, 2010 Might I suggest to the OP (and waddler8 ) that you could use pastebin.ca to upload large text files and just enter the pastebin reference number that will be issued to you via e-mail? Panther Rose   10 #39 Posted December 2, 2010 Hi Waddler8, I did what you suggested and nothing opened up in notepad. I just kept getting some error messages. Would it not be easier and better for me to purchase a anti-virus that will deal with this problem of mine? Share this post Link to post Share on other sites Share this content via...
waddler8 Â Â 10 #40 Posted December 2, 2010 No, I don't believe paying for an anti-virus would solve your problem. Â This is Windows 7, right? Â Did HijackThis install? Â Try it again as above, but this time instead of double clicking the icon, right click on the icon and choose "Run as Admininstrator" Share this post Link to post Share on other sites Share this content via...

Panther Rose   10 #44 Posted December 3, 2010 Waddler8, a message came up saying "For some reason your system denies write access to the Host file. If any hijacked domains are in this file, HijackThis may NOT be able to fix this" Does this make any sense to you? It then goes on to say that to deal with this I have to: Start - Run (type: notepad C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts Then press ENTER. I'm then supposed to find the line(s) that say HijackThis reports and delete them. Then to save file as 'hosts' (with quotes) and then reboot Does this sound right? Then to save file as 'hosts' (with quotes) and then reboot Does this sound right?  Yes, that makes sense and it is exactly one of the things I am trying to look for - entries in your hosts file. A default Windows 7 hosts file should look like this:  # Copyright © 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name. # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one # space. # # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol. # # For example: # # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host  # localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself. # 127.0.0.1 localhost # ::1 localhost   You may find yours has additional entries similar to this:  74.125.45.100 4-open-davinci.com 74.125.45.100 securitysoftwarepayments.com 74.125.45.100 privatesecuredpayments.com 74.125.45.100 secure.privatesecuredpayments.com 74.125.45.100 getantivirusplusnow.com 74.125.45.100 secure-plus-payments.com 74.125.45.100 www.getantivirusplusnow.com 74.125.45.100 www.secure-plus-payments.com 74.125.45.100 www.getavplusnow.com 74.125.45.100 safebrowsing-cache.google.com 74.125.45.100 urs.microsoft.com 74.125.45.100 www.securesoftwarebill.com 74.125.45.100 secure.paysecuresystem.com 74.125.45.100 paysoftbillsolution.com 74.125.45.100 protected.maxisoftwaremart.com 173.232.108.157 www.google.com 173.232.108.157 google.com 173.232.108.157 google.com.au 173.232.108.157 www.google.com.au 173.232.108.157 google.be 173.232.108.157 www.google.be 173.232.108.157 google.com.br 173.232.108.157 www.google.com.br 173.232.108.157 google.ca 173.232.108.157 www.google.ca 173.232.108.157 google.ch 173.232.108.157 www.google.ch 173.232.108.157 google.de 173.232.108.157 www.google.de 173.232.108.157 google.dk 173.232.108.157 www.google.dk 173.232.108.157 google.fr 173.232.108.157 www.google.fr 173.232.108.157 google.ie 173.232.108.157 www.google.ie 173.232.108.157 google.it 173.232.108.157 www.google.it 173.232.108.157 google.co.jp 173.232.108.157 www.google.co.jp 173.232.108.157 google.nl 173.232.108.157 www.google.nl 173.232.108.157 google.no 173.232.108.157 www.google.no 173.232.108.157 google.co.nz 173.232.108.157 www.google.co.nz 173.232.108.157 google.pl 173.232.108.157 www.google.pl 173.232.108.157 google.se 173.232.108.157 www.google.se 173.232.108.157 google.co.uk 173.232.108.157 www.google.co.uk 173.232.108.157 google.co.za 173.232.108.157 www.google.co.za 173.232.108.157 www.google-analytics.com 173.232.108.157 www.bing.com 173.232.108.157 search.yahoo.com 173.232.108.157 www.search.yahoo.com 173.232.108.157 uk.search.yahoo.com 173.232.108.157 ca.search.yahoo.com 173.232.108.157 de.search.yahoo.com 173.232.108.157 fr.search.yahoo.com 173.232.108.157 au.search.yahoo.com Share this post Link to post Share on other sites Share this content via...
waddler8   10 #47 Posted December 3, 2010 I'm so SICK and tired of inappropriate screens showing up when I'm on the Sheffield Forum website. I can assure you, it's nothing to do with Sheffield Forum.  Download this file and save it to your desktop.  Double-click on the hosts-perm.bat file that is now on your desktop. If Windows asks if you if you are sure you want to run it, allow it to run. You will see a black command window open & then close.  Then go to the Start search box and copy & paste the following into it:  notepad c:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts  Notepad should open with the contents of your hosts file. Copy the contents and paste them into a reply here. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites Share this content via...
