Scam marriage stopped in City Centre

Recommended Posts

Have I understood that right? A Slovak woman can marry an Afghani man and confer UK residency rights on him? When did that happen? At one time that didn't apply even if you were a full born British woman.

If you marry a non UK EU national and live in the UK you'll e treated as an EU national. If you marry a UK EU national you'll be treated by our immigration laws as they stand, 2 years leave to remain, after two years if your still together indefinite leave to remain.

Probably better to marry a German, than English, than Slovak, than Romanian.

EU 15 (except UK) - UK - A8 - A2

Is anyone else annoyed that the media just happened to be there as the wedding was broken up? What a coincidence.

If the UKBA are stopping fake marriages then good for them, but they shouldn't be tipping the media off in advance for better PR. Concentrate on catching criminals, not building up your public image!

In the report I read the UKBA people said they were trying to publicise these arrests to deter others trying the same scam so I imagine the media were tipped off about it.

hopefully many others thinking of doing this may have second thoughts. more power to UKBA on this one.

I think its a good thing they are doing some media on these frauds - after all the liberals are kicking off every time they try to refuse entry to someone like that bird off the x-factor and the recent Okpara family refusal cases. Why shouldnt they try and balance the media bias up.

Its completely right that fraudulent marriages should be exposed, these are usually arranged in order to make money.

And, the media bias occurs depending on which newspaper one reads. However I've not seen one item in the media supporting scam marriages.

The EEA citizen can marry her Internationa Boyfriend be it from AFG or any other part of the world. The husband can then apply for a residence permit for 5 yrs. After that he can apply for Indefinite leave to remain.

If the AFG man marries somebody British in UK he would get 2 years leave to remain and after that he can apply for Indefinite leave to remain.

We have the freedom to get married Article 12 of the ECHR. The Afghan man should not have been stopped for getting married to a European national. Please also do not forget that the persons were stopped getting married on the day, but we do not know what charges if any were brought by the police of UKBA. What you see on the TV is not relaity.

Marriages between non UK nationals aren't all stopped - only those where there is reason to believe they aren't valid. Its unlikely the UKBA would organise a team to stop a genuine marriage. Some examples here: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1237801/Illegal-immigrants-used-loophole-create-sham-marriages-right-live-Britain.html

I don't understand your rant? Surely if people are marrying for the sole reason of remaining in the UK these marriages should be stopped?
