Gutter/downpipe cleaning, repair/replacement MEGATHREAD no jobs/quotes

Recommended Posts

I am due to move into my new home early next month and the wooden guttering is in need of repair. With the cost of moving, we are going to be tight for cash - but wondered if anyone was able to give me a rough cost to repair or replace from work they have had done or can do?

I appreciate it is difficult without seeing the property, but I am just looking for a ball-park figure so that I can start to budget for it. The house is semi-detached and the length of the guttering is approx. 5m.

Many thanks

Buy your own length of gutter from timber specialists, prime and paint but no paint to inside vertical to allow trapped moisture to escape.Do not put bitumen in valley ,it can trap sealed moisture, but treat with linseed oil to waterproof.Simply pay the contactor to hang, then you know that the timber is decent.I paid about £60 for 4metres last year, and is top notch, heavy and dead straight.

You can get PVC ones that look like the timber ones, my mate had them fitted and they look good and won't rot in

I know but sometimes they will not join an existing section in timber ie where profiles are different.

Dont buy from Timber Specialists, the wood is stored outside and is dripping wet!!! If you paint wet wood you will only seal in the moisture.

I supply and fit new wooden guttering on a weekly basis for customers and will only buy dry timber. Before the job starts I will prime & undercoat the gutter prior to fitting then gloss once in place.

This is a job you only want to do once, I may not be the cheapest but I'll do it right for you.

Give me a ring for a free, no obligation quote.

Thats why the prudent buy in advance and store their timber so it dries.Have you advised the firm of their poor practice?
