espadrille   10 #37 Posted October 16, 2010 It'll be full of beardedsandalwearinglentileatingguardianreadinglefties now  It prompted me to go to Endcliffe Park with the dogs. Must say I did look at it in a different light after seeing that article but didnt see anyone with a beard and sandals, although there was (strangely )a man in shorts and flip flops. Dan_Ashcroft   10 #38 Posted October 16, 2010 Lou - have a look at this thread and the links within it before making your mind up. http://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=629683  It's true there's a lot of race-hate crime and anti-social behaviour around Abbeydale Road.  That's (metaphorically speaking) a million miles away from the Psalter Lane end of the area which is a real guardian reading champagne socialist area. samstar999 Â Â 10 #40 Posted October 16, 2010 All newspapers have inaccuracies in them which you only notice when the reporter is writing about something you have personal knowledge about. Â It wasn't really an inaccuracy though - it wasn't about Nether Edge at all and the picture was of Ecclesall Rd (they've now changed it on the online version of the artcicle). It was just WRONG! TheAlex   10 #41 Posted October 16, 2010 Nether Edge is quite a mixed community really, its leafy looks give the impression everyone is rich there but this isn't the case, there are lots of bedsits and hostels there. I guess you make the decision if you don't mind that or not.
 Share this content via...
orchis   10 #42 Posted October 16, 2010 I think Nether Edge is a great place to move to. I live and own a shop in what is considered the "dodgy" side and sure it has a few problems but I feel very safe and welcomed by the community of the area. The main problems as I see them (my own experience) would be loud pimped up cars, difficulty in parking outside your own house and my street has a bad litter problem. However, on the positives the council is sweeping my street once a week when I informed them, Once I chatted to people about parking they no longer block me in and the car noises are not constant and are rarely late at night. When I moved in to my street off abbeydale road I just got in amongst the area and now it is difficult to walk down the street without neighbours/shopkeepers asking how I am and shaking my hand etc. On first glance the "dodgy" streets seem quite menacing but I can say although i aspire to live in a castle with a moat and no neighbours at all I enjoy living and working in this area and would reccomend you come over have a coffee in the many nice cafes and take in the atmosphere for yourself. I sincerely hope you are made to feel really welcome, emma
 Share this content via...

nomme   10 #44 Posted October 18, 2010 the gruniad article was full of garbage, and innacuracies, Two I can think of straight off are  1) What the heck are the Botanic Gardens? I know where the Botanical Gardens are, but I'nn a Sheffielder born and bred, and have never known a Botanic Gardens in the city.  2) The picture illustrating the "article" is looking across Ecclesall road (No real shots of Ecclesall itself) over looking Ranmoor, but the text with the picture describes it as Nether Edge.  More discussion here:  http://www.guardian.co.uk/money/2010/oct/16/lets-move-to-nether-edge#start-of-comments  Where's t020 when you need him? Nether Edge hardly got a look in.  Good thing was that the article was 100% positive about Sheffield which is no bad thing.
 Share this content via...
