How many people have put Manor down cos they've heard it's the 'worst estate in Britain'? That's not on.

You're far more likely to have a dangerous encounter in Burngreave or Pitsmoor...

I've sampled the delights of living in all of these places. Actually, during my 'desperate domiciles' stage, I preferred Manor to the others. :P

I don't think Manor is bad at all compared to how it once was.

Woodthorpe, Wybourn are worse than Manor, but i would still opt for Burngreave as the WORST area, as i think it is by far more risky to walk through that district of Sheffield at night than anywhere else. After dark the area turns into a different place alltogether and even the police are afraid to venture there!

Again, i don't think even Burngreave is as bad as it has been over the decades, but i do think it is the most risky area to live in.

Most shootings and stabbings happen there!

What criteria are we using here?

How many guns per household?

How many family members with asbos?

The number of chavs per square mile?

Using hearsay and conjecture, IMO.

i lived in sharrow a little while and thought it was ok. leafy and central, i've lived in worse places. but i didn't feel safe there i guess, not walking home after dark. i imagine thats what you mean by worst area though, right? where you could feel safe and not get beaten up or harrassed, or where there isnt too much graffiti or drugs, or where there isnt gangs of lads hanging about because theyve nothing better to do.

i'd have said pitsmoor was the worst area because its kind of scary. i dont know about working class or snobby, i dont care about class difference, my only thought is how safe you are and whether theres good transport links to elsewhere, and whether or not you see greenery out the window. i wouldnt mind living in dore, though i'd have to buy a bike i suppose! it'd be a bit boring. i like to live close to the action.

its all subjective though isnt it, it depends on what you look for. t020, what do you look for in an area?

i tell you what i don't look for in an area...i moved to london for a little while but hated it so much i left after only 2 months. i hate arrogance, people just walking right across you or shoving onto a train before you, not letting you past, always in more of a hurry than you, motorists not stopping when youre waiting at a zebra crossing, that sort of thing. i lived in an unpretentious, working class area (canning town) and worked on oxford street, but people weren't friendly or considerate. nowheres perfect, i know, but i've never found such rudeness to quite such a level anywhere outside of london, and i've lived in a lot of places in the u.k.

sorry, i should've said hi, i'm new. hope it's ok me just posting like this.

Also i guess all parts all over the UK has their problem area/s some worse though than others

i happen to be in a good area and been here now 18 yrs this Dec

and although its nice and peaceful to live , im contemplating a move away for a fresh start to Sheffield

or the Sheffield area , shall be a Council house swap ..

I think you need a few more candidates such as Dore, Fulwood, Ecclesall, Totley. These areas always strike me as soul-less with a large proportion of their population consisting of people who look down on other areas of the city.

There is a good case for transferring these areas out of Sheffield.

IMHO, that is.

Well thats ok coming from a left wing socialist worker type isn't it! If it were up to you we'd have Joseph Stalin mark 2 in charge!

As it happens I was brought up in Totley and grew up around generally nice people - Point to note: Not everyone who lives in these areas is soul-less as you put it, most have worked hard all their lives to live there as opposed to voicing political left wing views and selling the socialist worker on street corners without actually contributing to society in any positive way other than to cause trouble.

Dore and Totley have council estates just like most other areas however you left wing socialist worker types just can't see the wood for the trees can you?

Totley has a large number of elderly residents these days and only the new estate where the Poly used to be can claim to have odd people in it, but then again why shouldn't they live there they've earned the right to better themselves! its just a shame you haven't done the same and are obviously jealous of the success people have made with their lives.

Also as it happens I never wished to live in Totley, nice area just too far out in the sticks for my liking and I do enjoy where I live now which is much closer to the city centre. You get good and bad people in all areas and the sooner you remove the chipshop off that extremely large shoulder of yours the better it will be for all concerned.

Even better try employment where you add to the economy instead of whiging about it!:gag:

Nothing nasty here just pure common sense:)
