jrowl   10 #1 Posted September 24, 2010 Quite surprised to see how our council tax is being spent today. Two police bikes, three cars,a camera van and bicycle police being used for the escorting of two school mini buses in and around Rivelin and Hillsborough corner. The two bikes were blocking roads to let the buses through and were flanked by two cars then whilst blocking the road the kids from the two mini buses got out and jogged 100yds while holding a flag up the pavement to Rivelin valley school. Sorry but this in my eyes is a huge waste of police resources,i don't usually moan but this OTT. All this and i have been waiting two weeks to make a statement because they're busy, about a dangerous driver that was over double the speed limit and crashed and was 10inch from killing a pedestrian
 Share this content via...
blahblahbla   10 #2 Posted September 25, 2010 do you know who the kids were.? do you know why they were there ? do you know what the event was.? do you know why they were being escorted.? do you know if the cops were on overtime.? do you know how long the whole thing took.? do you know how long that thing has been organised.? do you have kids of school age..?  Sorry but this in my eyes is a huge waste of police resources I take it your in possession of most of this information to be able to make such an informed opinion, in your eyes..?    has the 2 week wait damaged your memory of your incident..? was the other driver arrested anyway, or do you have vital information to locate him.? have you been told that someone WILL take your statement..?   I think your right.. The cops shouldve stopped what they were doing immediately and sat you down for an hour to take your incredibly important statement.  I saw a fire engine deployed today to put out a burning wheelie bin on a playing field. What a ridiculous waste of money.. It rained ten minutes after they put out..!!! sack the lot 'em.
 Share this content via...

sheffladlee   10 #4 Posted September 25, 2010 This was something to do with the 2018 world cup bid I think, I am sure I read something about it somewhere. I maybe wrong.
 Share this content via...

One thing's for certain, the escort won't have been for school children.
 Share this content via...
jrowl   10 #6 Posted September 25, 2010 The escort was two mini buses full of school kids all with yellow t-shirts on, the kids then got out of the bus and ran 100yds up a footpath to a school while the roads were blocked. So yes they were escorting kids.
 Share this content via...

I don't understand why you have jumped on my post with all the questions seemingly trying to make me look bad for saying this exercise was an expense we could do without,And you post this on another thread.  by blahblahbla "In exactly the same way as i find virtually all cops to be glory seekers who are out only to tax the general motoring public, because thats all i see them doing.. that or swanning around in a big daft helicopter wasting tax payers money just to chase down chavs on stripped down motorbikes..  I feel for the ones that are going to be made redundant, but they have brought it upon themselves wasting so much money. "  A little hypocritical if i may say so. Edited September 25, 2010 by jrowl
 Share this content via...

blahblahbla   10 #11 Posted September 25, 2010 I was merely pointing out the subjectiveness of your comments. It reads as though merely because they havent been to see you yet, the police should stop everything they are doing until you are seen.  I wasnt defending the police one bit. It probably was an outrageous waste of money. One the organisation is broken up and privatised, things like this will stop being provided for free, and schools can put their hands in their pockets to be ecorted to events.  And im sure once the Police are taken out of accident investigation work, and the insurance companies finance it all, they will have a statement clerk that will come and take your witness statement in no time at all.  As for my previous post. I stand by the fact that using a helicopter to catch a kid on a motorbike IS poor economy. It is much much cheaper to put a couple of cops on motorbikes to do the same thing, without the associated disruption to peoples lives. smog   10 #12 Posted September 25, 2010 I think it was actually something to do with the opening of the new school at the Myers Grove site. Was in the Sheff Telegraph, as a "Torch relay for new school". Still a waste of money - kids could have run it all the way surely? Don't they do cross-country these days?
