Investment update

Posted on: Thu 23 Sep 2010

The Blades have cautiously indicated that they might be close to confirming an investment deal that, if it happens, would help directly with recruitment on the pitch.

Chief Executive Trevor Birch who is heavily involved on the Club's behalf in seeking and bringing on board outside investment said:

"We are progressing, continue to do that and have a potential investor in Malaysia who we are talking to. Hopefully there will be some resolution in the next six weeks or so and others are also in the frame. If it happens it won't be a takeover, it will be a partnership investment alongside Kevin McCabe."

Understandably Birch would not comment on the size of the investment, indicating that it would be "a moving feast" but conceded that he thought "they would be a board member with the significance of their investment," adding "Kevin (McCabe) is on record as saying any investment will be directed straight into the first-team rather than repaying any monies invested by him.

"They are general business people who have professionalism in managing businesses. We would hope there is enough expertise here to run a football club and that is what they are buying into.

"It will be a calculated investment, there won't be any rash splashing out on players, and it has to be hand in hand with what Gary Speed wants in terms of squad enhancement.

"It won't be reckless, I don't think football is in that position - perhaps with the exception of Manchester City - and people have to be conservative in their approach."

Not sure why clubs release statements like this, that actually say very little...if anything.

That said, the following quote is encouraging:

"Kevin (McCabe) is on record as saying any investment will be directed straight into the first-team rather than repaying any monies invested by him"

We're talking about United here, not Wednesday.

Oh my.

we still do :) remember the proposed £70m sale, the £40m, ? £20M? the many pull outs the ££9m and £7m club 9 deals ???

All pre wind up orders of course and after 4 years !!! a £1 sale and £20m of debts welched on !!

Yet you Owls still have the Gaul to Comment on another clubs finances, one without a hint of a single winding up order nor any bank debt !!

Would your time be more fruitful boasting of your clubs long forgotten status as Sheffields highest place club? after all its been over 12 years!

Why not boast of your chairmans great progress since his takeover?

Why?? out of your 25 football related posts are 15 on United threads? (10 on Owls)

Enjoy your success , and stop feeling threatened by your more honourable neighbours.

Honourable as in Ched Evans rapist?

Or Paddy Kenny drugs cheat?

Or suing the FA et al?

Or squealing for a cup replay?

Or the only club to have a game abandoned due to having too many players sent off (or being 'injured')?

The list goes on.

Don't for one minute kid yourself that Sheffield United aren't down there amongst the list of dishonourable names in football.

Honourable as in club, am sure even the dimist of members accept one cant control individuals, as in the Case of Peter Swan etc.

As for the cup replay v Arsenal, i was there and before we even got back to the Hen and Chicken pub on highbury corner, the replay had been announced!! Arsenals manager demanded it ! United did not have time to "squeal" never mind appeal !! i went to the rearranged fixture too! i personally would have rather the first result stood by the way.

You wish to deflect from your own clubs failings fair enough, but again like most honourable clubs United have and up to date continue to pay their way.

Frankie this thread was based on finance and financial concerns, you want to discuss personal individual players start a new thread, maybe we can discuss Madines record and pending personal issues too.
