Best pubs for real cider in Sheffield

Recommended Posts

Hello all, me and my friend are planning on going on a 'cider tour' of Sheffield tonight and are just plotting our route, are there any avid cider drinkers here who could recommend the best places to go?

So far we have

- Red Deer

- Fagans

- Grapes

- Kelham Island Tavern

- Devonshire cat

The Harlequin are quite keen on proper scrumpy.

The New Barrack Tavern and Rutland Arms are also worth adding to the list. Cheddar Valley Cider is on handpump at the Wellington.

Thanks for these, Harlequin is at the top of the list so far :D

Their website lists the following real ciders:-

- Ross-On-Wye Farmhouse Perry – 6.0%

- Millwhites Whisky Cask Cider – 7.5%

- Millwhites Rum Cask Cider – 7.5%

- Thatchers Cheddar Valley – 6.0%

- Mr Whitehead’s Midnight Special Perry – 6.0%

- Cider Niks Vat 3 – 6.5%

- Ben Crossman Home Orchard Special – 7.0%

- Ben Crossman Medium Cider – 6.0%

- Gwynt Y Draig Haymaker – 6.5%

- Gwynt Y Draig Black Dragon – 7.2%

- Oliver’s Perry – 6.0%

So quite a few to go on there! :)

I went to The Harlequin a couple of weeks ago and was disappointed with the choice of cider.

The choice of draught was restricted and the choice from the boxes was all mixed 'whisky-cider' and the likes.

It's nice to have guests but it'd also be nice to have nice, not too bitter tasting, regular.

They had us for suggestions to the Wrongbow they have on tap so I suggested Ashford Press. Never seen it up here so fingers crossed!

Rutland Arms on Brown Street currently has a range of about 6 real ciders.

One not mentioned is the Closed Shop on Commonside which has a choice of about 3 ciders.
