mikep57 Â Â 10 #1 Posted August 26, 2010 On switching on I get a black screen with message:- Applying update operation 50 of 50(\Registry\machine\components\...) This stayed on the screen for hours, control/alt/delete no effect so I switched power off. On restarting am asked to launch start up repair which did the job. This has happened the last two times I have swiched the computer on. Be very glad of any ideas. Thanks.
 Share this content via...

Thanks.  If you have Automatic update switched on (I take it that you have because of the message) when you turn off the machine it comes up with a comment like "windows is downloading updates Do not turn PC off"  Then when you start PC up it says "Applying update operation XX OF XX do not turn PC off "  Note the DO NOT if you power off the machine it goes to the beginning and starts D/l again If it is on for 'hours' as you said there is probably a fault in one of the updates
 Share this content via...

DeusNova   10 #4 Posted August 26, 2010 It sounds like a Windows update. Just let it complete, otherwise it could cause an error in the installation.
 Share this content via...
mikep57 Â Â 10 #5 Posted August 26, 2010 Yes it's windows 7. Reason I switched off was due to the "50 of 50" message being unchanged after 4 hours but will restart and leave on for rest of today. Thanks folks!
 Share this content via...
waddler8 Â Â 10 #6 Posted August 26, 2010 It might be failing to install - 4 hours is more than long enough to install one update! Â Go into programs and features and see if you have the following update: Â KB981852
 Share this content via...
