Anj1364 Â Â 10 #26 Posted May 11, 2006 Once they fix your eyes do they stay fixed, or does it start to wear off after 10 years or something ? Â Â Â It's permanent and will only deteriorate as any other persons sight does with age.
 Share this content via...

needhams   10 #28 Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) Hi  Has anyone out there had LASEK eye surgery? I am especially interested in the recovery time and the level of discomfort after this type of laser surgery.  I went for a consultation yesterday and due to my prescription I need either LASIK Intralase (which is out of my budget) or LASEK with Intralase (being the cheaper option as this has a longer recovery time).  I'd love to hear from anyone who can tell me their experience of LASEK surgery.  Thanks! singo   10 #29 Posted January 29, 2009 My eyes took about 5 days to recover fully. But it was worth it.  They were sore for a few days after, but hey, they'd just had bits burned off so it was to be expected.
 Share this content via...
holymoses   10 #30 Posted January 29, 2009 I had it done over a year ago and I am still suffering dry eyes, night driving is very difficult because of halos and although my short sight is perfect distance vision is not good. I now have to wear glasses for driving.  I would not recommend the procedure, and given the choice with hind sight I would not have had it done. Sorry if that sounds abit negative but I think its some thing that should not have gone main stream.  Next step for me... a good lawyer
 Share this content via...
logiebaird   10 #31 Posted January 29, 2009 I had LASEK even though i had option of both.  Mine took a little longer to recover than the prescribed time - Was told 10 = 14 days whreas 21 - 25 days was nearer the mark. The discomfort was minimal although the 3 weeks seemed to drag on forever because i was of course leaving the clinic alongside others who had experienced instant results and seen their instant elation at the "cure"  Both procedures were identically priced as far as i can remember but i opted for LASEK due to the simple logic / risk factor.- quick recovery higher risk vs slower recovery less risk. My lifestyle didnt demand instant recovery so why increase the risk.  I also have a problem with the way the medical procedures are pitched as almost routine by the sales people.  People have lost their sight undergoing this procedure (Im told) and even though they are a miniscule amount as compared with the success rate you may wish to take this into consideration.  If i were to undergo this again (and this is purely personal) i would have one eye done at a time and then there is no risk of being left blind. Streetfarce   10 #32 Posted January 29, 2009 Last time I went to the opticians they asked me if I was interested in this, as I am quite short sighted. I noticed that the optician had even worse vision than me, based on the thickness of her glasses, and asked why she had not had it done, if it was as good as she said ?  She made up a very unconvincing story about needing a new car, so I told her that, if, next time, she had had the operation, she could tell me all about it and I might consider it.  From my point of view, if the optician herself has not had it done, when she obviously has very poor uncorrected vision, I won't even consider it, there must be a lot of risks involved. feargal   21 #34 Posted January 29, 2009 Go to see several places that offer the service, and don't settle for something because it's the cheapest. You only have one set of peepers, and it's worth saving up and paying the extra for the better proceedure.  I spent a lot on mine, but it was worth every penny - no pain, no halos, no dry eyes (after about a month or so of mild dryness), and now I have very nearly perfect vision. I couldn't believe how "conveyor belt" places like Ultralase and Vision Express were.  I'd recommend Sheffield Vision Centre (based at the Hallamshire hospital), but like I said not a cheap option. jayjays   10 #35 Posted January 29, 2009 i had lasik with the wavefront thing done about 7 months ago in meadowhall upstairs. It was...uncomfortable i have to say for about a day, but i had minimal sleep the night before so i could sleep through it after the operation which i did. i had about 15 hours sleep and when i woke up, i could see! it didnt hurt! and it was all good  well worth it, i play football 3-4 times a week, running every other day, and have work every day so it worked wonders for me! no more wakin up to not being able to see the alarm, i could finally lie down and watch tv without my glasses gettin in the way, and best of all no more fussin about with eye infections with contacts. as1970   10 #36 Posted January 29, 2009 hi, I have had my eyes lasered, I had it done at Ultralase in Leeds, do think where you are having them done too, you want good aftercare! mine did cost nearly £3000, could pay monthly which was great interest free too.  I had a choice of lasik or lasik with wavefront etc, I had ultra lasik with wavefront, mine took ten mins each eye, I was fantastic from walking out, obviously I had to rest but I was so excited that I could see I was looking and reading everything! I had to go back the following day for a check up, everything fantastic, then I could go to specialist opticians in sheffield that can check lasered eyes (think can do it at Dolland & Aichison now but at the time they didn't)  My eyes were pretty bad before, -5.75 -5.50, very dry, worked on computers all day, never had any trouble since, I can still see!!!  that was 5 years ago and I dont regret anything, the aftercare was fab, my recovery was fantastic, next day i was normal! A friend had hers done after me, she had Lasek she recovered within 5 days no probs, never had any trouble either - alot of friends have had it since 3 went to ultralase, 2 went to optimax (cheaper) but all but one had great vision, only 1 friend was still blurry in one eye after 2 weeks and took longer on recovery (not pain just vision), but she had driving vision and was very happy!
