Never doubt the Corks....

Sheffield United set to name Gary Speed as manager

Speed made 85 Wales appearances - a record for an outfield player.

Sheffield United are set to name Gary Speed as their new manager, BBC Radio Sheffield understands.

The 40-year-old is understood to have been offered the position and is meeting chairman club Kevin McCabe and chief executive Trevor Birch in Spain.

Speed has been working as first-team coach alongside former Blades manager Kevin Blackwell who left the club after Saturday's 3-0 loss to QPR.

Speed retired from playing last season to take up his role at Bramall Lane.

More to follow.

well hopefully all the united fans that have been calling for him to be boss for the last few weeks wont be let down, no guarantees he will do any better than blackwell but at least he should get some time to fix things from the fans
