hi i worked at treeton colliery from 1980 until its demise in 1990 when i transferred to rossington on the area salvage team are there any other ex treeton miners using this forum ?

 

i too worked at Treeton, 1974-1990, worked with a great bunch of lads, David Rose, John Lax, Steve Perkins, Howard Pennington, Terry Hilton and his brothers, Matt and Dougie Thompson, Mousey, Allan Stool on Head, the Magic Roundabout who i was part of the team as Dillon for obvious reasons! my Dad worked underground until an accident took hom too working on the stock yard r=then in the Bath House, all of the Wiulkinson Brothers worked at Treeton Pete, Dennis, Paul and kast but not least the best Albert, please get in touch as it would be great to meet up and talk about old times especially the Miners Srike of 84-85.

I did my training at Treeton and Orgreave I left school in 1957 and started at Treeton this was my first job. When i finished my training i worked in the blacksmiths shop at Treeton for a while.

I remember Treeton, how could I forget the people and the events that took place. There where some great times and great people, then the strike happened and everything changed over night. I have read through the list of names and recall some of them and their stories..

 

I will go with a story, Tommy Maskery (My father) was a Deputy he woould walk through the pit tapping his stick on the rails as he went. I asked him one day, "why do you do that", he said "because the noise travels down the rails and the button lads know I am coming and wake up anyone thats sleeping"

 

 

He was a grand old man and I miss him and his stories.

 

i remember Tommy and the only other Maskery i can remember is Freddie Maskery, is this the person who i am replying to.

i worked at Treeton Colliery from 1974-1990 the transfered to Thurcroft Colliery, i worked with a great bunch of lads from Treeton, Swallownest, Aston, Catcliff, David Rose, John Lax, Steve Perkins, Howard Pennington, Bob Coughlin, Matt and Dougie Thompson, the Magic Rounabout, the Polite Gang, all the Deputys and overmen, John Honest Kid Swift, Bull head, too many to mention, memories can't be taken away they stay with you for ever.

hi my dad worked at treeton pit from 1979 to 1988, big tatooed john (john shepherd) from sheffield and my uncle burt hawkes who sadly died a few years ago, worked with tommy swift for many years from canklow. my dad says sorry to hear about ken souter dying what a top lad. Also rocket ronnie as he was on nights regular, knew most of the lads but carnt name them all.....good old days.

 

i can rember Tommy Swift from Canklow and Kenny Biffo also from Canklow, i can remember Rocket Ronnie as well, my name is Albert Wilkinson, i to worked with a great bunch of lads, Dave Rose, John Lax, Steve Perkins, Bob Coughlin, Matt and Duggie Thompson, Mousey, Honest Kid John Swift, Johnny Marshall, i worked at Treeton from 1974-1990 then transfered to Thurcroft till 1991, would love to meet up with some of the lads.

Yes i can remember Charlesworth, ****ing Robbed me and my team mates out of Hundreds of pounds whilst working on the face, he was no better than Honest Kid Johnny Swift, once a **** always a ****!

ron windle union man he was from treeton he finished up being a councilor i think jonny mac bought his own quarry in derbyshire the last i heard what a lad he was lol big powerfull man but as soft as a brush down pit i remeber him crawling down coal face and he had a black out and a lump of rock fell on his head took six men to get him off the face then he was back at work the next day lol

 

yes i can remember the 3 wise men, Tommy Dunkly, Dennis Wiseall, and Tommy Tucker, i can remember doing my training with Ron down the pit, my Dad also worked with him, iam Albert Wilkinson son of Albert Wilkinson, great times i had working their from 1974-1990.

yep tis me, how ya doin Dougie, my first job in life after school & the only job in my life where every one i met & worked with was sound as a pound. spoke to alka recently, he said he still sees you in't village, have one in the maggies for me. so you're a bus driver now! bit different from driving a shearer & blowing things up with dynamite downt pit-lol. Scargill & thatcher didn't just kill an industry between em the killed a way of life. ttfn.

i too remember and worked with Dave Lowe at Treeton and on the Face at Thurcroft i was his Right hand man on the Shearer at Thurcroft, i saw him a couple of years ago in Rotherham but when you haven't seen one of your pit mates in years you dont at first recognise them, i didn't even have time to ask for his number or where he lived, the last i could remember Dave lived at Catcliff, by the way my name is Albert Wilkinson.

I was in Ireland once with Glyn Buxton Rockley and in a bar called The Cosy Bar in Belturbet, we overheard a voice he knew from the pit. It was a kid who had only one arm, apparently he'd taken a short cut down the drift or something and had an accident, anyway from what I heard, he'd travelled to Ireland on a motorbike! He was as mad as hatter but I found it, and still do find it hard to believe he drove a motorbike with one arm missing.

i worked with Glynn when he was a chock Fitter, my name is Albert Wilkinson, i can remember the bad accident that Glynn had that eventually took him to working on the surface, great lad Glynn, sound as a pound.

my dad JOE Dexter and brother TONY Dexter (ted) worked at treeton pit my brother add long brown hair he looked like a girl the worked under ground.

 

i remember Joe Dexter, i did most of my training on 10s and 12s with him, i can't remember Ted though, if hes'e still alive ask hom if he knows Albert Wilkinson. he will certainly know my Dad.

oh Happy Days, i can Remember working with all of them Chris Hack, Hack, Hacking, Les Mr, Bean Middleton, John Budgie Humphries, ask John about the accident and when they put a budgie in his cage that he had to wear, i can remember Les when he had his accident that night and i lost part of my little finger when Teddy Thackery whacked it with a 14 pound hammer! i saw Steve Marshall in 1990 at Rotherham General, i had an accident at Thurcroft pit cutting my wrist ona Corrigated sheet, Brian Cross, what a guy, worked with him and Trevor Dallison in Wathwood seam, my name is Albert Wilkinson, my Dad worked in the Baths, great times, happy memories,

to bustasofa, my name is Albert Wilkinson jnr, my Dad Albert also worked in the Bath House after working on the Stock Yard he used to work down the Pit but due to a fatal accident that nearly took his life he ended up on the surface, i can remember all the people mentioned on this list as if was yesterday, my name is Albert Wilkison, son of Albert Senior, i started at the pit 1974 and finished 1990, i then transferred to Thurcroft, the best job i had, the best mates anyone could ask for, i can remember running around Treeton Village with Kev Lancaster during the night the Coppers came to Treeton during the Miners Strike trying to avoid the grewat Super Trooper (big Search Light to you who don't know what one is) i wish i could turn back time as i would do it all again.

Hi WizardofoDD, i worked at Trreton Pit from 1974-1990 the transferred to Thurcroft Pit, i worked with a great bunch of men and lads, such as David Lowe, John Lax, Steve Perkins annd his Dad Dennis and Pretty Polly Perkins, Gary Moore, Jeppo, Nosh & Raz, Trevor Wellington Dallinson, Glynn Buxton Rockley, Phil Rubber Bottle Mathews, Jonnny Rotten, Little Willie, Frank Denton, Joe Dexter, started my Training underground with 2 of the best blokes i will always be proud of ans a pleasure to work with that is Eric Stewart & Joe Edwards, also worked on the same dust supreesion team with Howard Pennington, i can remember the Miners Strike like it was yesterday, the night the coppers came to Treeton Village and me and Kev Lancaster running through the fields trying to avoid the big Super Trooper, (search light to u who don't know what a Super Trooper is) as Cher sang if i could turn back time, would love to meet up with my old work mates, by the way my name is Albert Wilkinson, son of Albert Wilkinson.

is their any ex Treton Miners still alive who would like to meet up again, my name is Albert Wilkinson, i worked at Treeton from 1974-1990, i worked with the best men and lads anyone could wish for, never a dull moment and everyone stuck together, alas the Miners Strike came and it split some of my best mates apart, still can't forgive or forget what they did, i can remember flaming Pit Monster waving his wage slip to us all on picket duty at the top of the lane, if only i had a 14 pound hammer that day, tranmsferred to Thurcroft Colliery in 1990, finished the following year as this pit was going nowhere, even tried a buy out to no avail, now working as a security officer at Meadowhall.

Hi my name is Albert Wilkinson, i'm trying to get in contact with any of my old pit mates especially Dave Lowe, John Lax, Steve Perkins, Kev Lancaster, any of the Magic Roundabout crew who i worked with, i was Dillon for obvios Reasons, i heard Glynn Buxton Rockley is now living in Linconshire somewhere, saw Lacky in Nettos at Parkgate around 2002, i was working as a Retail Security officer, didn't have much time to talk, also saw Dave lowe a couple of years after in Rotherham, didn't recognise him at first as people change feature wise, would love to meet up and talk about the good old days, some people want to move on and forget the past, i don't mind that but its been a long time since i saw any of my old friends and would love to meet them and catch up with what their doing now.

Hello chaps! I don't expect you to remember this ex-Treeton Colliery worker personally, but perhaps you may have heard of him. He worked at Treeton Colliery for about a year or so from 1938 until WW2 broke out. His name was David Maltby and may be better known to some of you as Flight Lieutenant David Maltby, who successfully dropped his bouncing bomb on the Moehne Dam and finished the job good and proper!

 

If any of you have heard of him working there - you may have older relatives who, if they didn't know him personally, may have heard of him working at Treeton - please let me know, would be most grateful detail however small.

i was just comin off the district on that evening , think it was bob earp who bandaged him up , i remember the pic in sun newspaper of him with the steel cage on his face , to fix all the smashed up bones , he had a plastic budgie perched on it lol ..... i think he went insurance selling once he were mended , not seen him for donkeys years now tho

 

Kevin Presley was with me at the time. i remember him in the plough in catcliffe with the cage and budgie.he got me a beer for stopping the belt.i was just glad he was alive.by the way do you remember me mick caster
