Just seen this thread whilst bored S***tless on a friday night!..

Since I finished uni, I stayed in sheffield to work while more or less everyone I know left for different parts of the country.

Most of the people I work with are 40+ so my social life in sheffield has hit an all time low and im now sat on my backside on a friday night writing on a forum!

Only thing is, up until a year ago I would have laughed at anyone that went finding new friends on the internet/forums! I would have took the micky all night long but low and behold here I am on a Friday night, bad karma you think?

Does anyone know what I mean?? Iv gone from 3 nights a week on the town to a takeaway and a video on a friday night.... only times I go out at the moment are when I travel down to London or Manchester to see mates.

And all these social activity club type things in sheffield, ... iv never really looked but Im not really interested in that sort of stuff, after work I just want to chill out and go fo a few pints or hit the clubs on a weekend ... I think id feel totally lame walking into some goup I have no interest in and being all like... "Hi will you be my friend?" ...

Well, you've got to take a risk every now and then, and yes - I do know how you feel. I'm very much in the same boat regarding work colleagues etc.

To be honest, it's unlikely that you'll meet people you just 'click' with if you randomly meet up and sit and get drunk so the idea begind organising a meal/social activity is that everyone put in the same position of having to take part - kind of makes the playing field a bit more level eh? Of course, once you find some people that you get on with, you can get ****** on a night out then!

Everyone's tired after work, but you're more likely to meet new people if you take up a new interest/hobby. If all you do is go to work and you don't like/match with the people at work, then you're going to stay stuck in the same position. I don't want to sound like I'm having a pop, it's just that I've had this conversation with myself many times in the last year!

Petals86 and I intend to meet up soon and I know she;s met some other people from this thread as well. We could make a facebook group if you want? I'm happy to do that if it's easier/less weird for people?

We've arranged to meet round kelham island on a Monday for a pub quiz to get to know everyone so come along, I'd be up for future Friday night drinking used to love a few after work but since my colleagues all are over 50 this only happens with other half which as lovely as he is he's not always first choice and need space x
