I assumed that the copper was attempting to arrest him, and shot to secure an escape. In fact there's no solid evidence that Moat is responsible for the shooting of the PC, but it's highly likely.

Another deranged and violent man who can't stand the fact that his ex is his ex (no doubt as a result of his unreasonable behaviour) and has made a life for herself without him.

well seen as he was in prison already, being deranged and violent wasnt a surprise lol.............or shouldnt have been for "normal" people

has it come out yet why he was in prison and how long he did, and if he was let out early?

It was for assault, but not a serious assault. (Well .. not serious compared to some other assaults. There's no such thing as a frivolous assault...)

apparently in the news of the world it stated he had been done for assault on two of his children to his first partner ,the ex that he shot was advised by social services that she had to end the relationship with him or risk having their young daughter taken away from her and go into hiding on his release cos everyone knew how dangerous he was ,so why on earth did the police and social services fail to find the young woman a safer place rather than the next door neighbour to her mother ? He had also threatened her and her grandmother with a gun to them years earlier ?

More here.

What a charmer.

A man believed to be Moat then shot uniformed motor patrol officer Pc Rathband while he was on duty at East Denton, to the west of Newcastle, at about 0045 BST on Sunday.

Police said Pc Rathband was carrying out a "static patrol" on a roundabout when he was attacked. He was later taken to Newcastle General Hospital.

Mr Adamson revealed that Moat had contacted the police at about the same time Pc Rathband was shot, although he would not give a specific time.

He said Moat had been under the impression that Miss Stobbart had been having an affair with a Northumbria police officer.

But he said Mr Brown, who had moved to the area from Slough, did not have anything to do with the police.

"Chris Brown, who was shot and killed yesterday, was not and has never been a Northumbria police officer or in any way connected with Northumbria police.

A case of OJ syndrome? If I can't have her, then nobody else can and I shall go on jealous fuelled rampage killing spree.

I just hope that when he's caught, he ends up serving a life sentence for murder and not pleading diminished responsibility and getting a manslaughter (or man's laughter) verdict.
