Advice required re; Asbestos

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I've just started stripping the bedroom and moved on to removing some thick plaster off the top part of the walls. It's not patterned like Artexing but more like a rough look finish.

I started chipping away at it not thinking about asbestos but I looked closely at it and it's very strange looking which got me worried.

It's dark gray plaster (concrete/cement looking) with little metallic flecks in it. It's very hard to chip off the walls but once off you can break it quite easy and the metal looking flecks aren't hard at all.

We removed some of this in another bedroom some years ago but for some reason I never gave it any thought.

I trawled the internet for images and descriptions or something similar to what we have but can't find much.

I'm just hoping there's somebody on SF that has come across this before or can advise me on what it may be (asbestos or not)

Thanks in advance

sounds like asbestos sheet, whatever you do do not break up as this releases the fibre particals, we have had it before on various projects. needs to be disposed of by certified companies ,look in yellow pages. not cheap though. I am not sure if council tip sites will take it although it has to be double bagged up and sealed first, give city council a call first.

Thanks for your reply.

We have already broken some if it up :s

I spoke to a plasterer that said it sounds like bonding compound that has been used to rough plaster a room.

Not sure what to do now...
